IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cletus W.
Gibbs
October 4, 1964 – July 23, 2020
Isaiah 51:11 "Those the LORD has rescued will return. They will enter Zion with singing: everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
On the 4th day of October of 1964, a robust, 11 pound, 4 ounce baby boy was born to Herman W. Gibbs and Minie M. Brady. They named him Cletus W. Gibbs. He attended Muskogee Public Schools. Cletus would boast that he was tremendously blessed to meet and marry his soulmate, the love of his life, Sandra Jean Gibbs. Cletus was proud to be the Daddy of four wonderful children.
Cletus, Sandra and children relocated to Wichita, Kansas, where he worked numerous jobs before he began his janitorial services. He was able to employ others and yet continued to work demanding hours.
Cletus world seemingly fell away when Sandy, his wife and best friend died. Without his best friend Sandy by his side, He found himself in a struggle. He relocated back to Muskogee, where he served as the Maintenance man for First Presbyterian Church until it closed its doors in 2015. While working at the Church, Cletus would train young men in the art of cleanliness and diligence to clean, paint and maintain a buiding. Cletus was a stickler for cleanliness and that was seen in his home.
Proverbs 18:24 states, "But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Cletus found those words to be true. His struggle became lighter as he developed his relationship with Jesus, his new best friend. The last years of his life, he spent time reading his Bible, boasting in the LORD, walking with his dog, Red, sharing words of wisdom with his children, family and friends; mostly he spent time doing his favorite saying, "Minding my own business and staying out of other people's business."
Cletus started life as a robust baby, became a robust man, had a robust laugh and shared an abundance of love and friendships.
In his 56th year of living, He heard the call from his Best Freind and to Heaven he ascended to dwell in his new abode and received his crown; for death had no victory!
After Cletus entered the gates, he took time to sit at the Master's feet, then those who greeted him included his parents, two brothers, two sisters and his oldest, handsome, loving, basketball playing grandson, Marion Terrell.
He leaves to remember his love and laugh; his son, Reginald E. Gibbs, Walnut Ridge, AK; his daughters, Shatara Gibbs [Marion], Shatera Gibbs [Laine], and Marcleta Gibbs-Smith [Anthony], Wichita, KS; his grandchildren, Mirakle, Latejea, Sandra, Shaman, Deja, Laine, Coryeon, Kamariyae and Brylin; his brother, Kenneth McCLendon, Hinesville, GA; his sisters, Carolyn Love, Candice Milton, Muskogee, OK, Shelia Love, Tulsa, OK, Eartha Gibbs-White, IL, and Patricia Gibbs-Parker, Broken Arrow, OK.
