Obituary

Mrs. Clovice Earnestine Jordan, in her 83rd year, went to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, September 1, 2018 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Sister Earnestine Jordan was born to the union of Nina Jeffers and Roosevelt Rentie on May 27, 1935. She also always acknowledged and stated how much she learned from her step-fathers, George Smith and Sylvester W. Barnett. Earnestine attended school in rural Oklahoma (Anderson Elementary, Beacon Light Elementary and Grayson High School. She excelled academically and was valedictorian of her class.

Earnestine met Alonzo Jordan when she was 9 years old and they became childhood friends. Her future mother-in-law, Lizzie Jordan, led her to Christ when she was 15 years old. Alonzo would become the love of her life and they married July 9, 1952. Earnestine's family affectionately called her "Bitty." Alonzo called her "Bitty One." He knew there was only one like her. She was unique in her love for God, her husband, children, grandchildren and other family members. Earnestine and her beloved husband Alonzo were married for 65 years and they reared 12 children and six grandchildren. All their children and grandchildren learned about God at an early age and attended church every week. Every day, she pulled the family together for early morning family prayer as the first activity of the day. The family would kneel together, and each person had to pray, even children at a young age who could barely talk.

Though times could be hard, they never lacked for anything. Alonzo worked hard, and Earnestine was an excellent financial manager. They had a partnership of good stewardship and sharpness in business matters. Even with 12 children, they were able to pay for their home and buy several rent houses. They also paid off the home of one of Earnestine's siblings.

Earnestine was a faithful member of Evening Light Saints Church of God for 63 years. She faithfully taught in Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. She was devoted to God and serving at the church. Her heart and desire were for her family and others to be saved and serve God. She led her brother Willie to Christ and ensured that her younger sisters and brothers attended Vacation Bible School.

She was truly a Proverbs 31 virtuous women. Her price is far above rubies. She did her husband good and not evil all the days of her life. She worked willingly with her hands – canning, cooking, making clothes and sewing quilts. She loved sewing quilts and canning with her neighbor of over 40 years, Naomi Barnett.

During her life, before the internet and Turbo Tax she prepared income tax returns for several members of her family, church and members of the local community, she also worked home health for several years and volunteered at her daughter's day care center, but what she was most proud of was staying at home raising children and being a homemaker.

Whether it was her role as wife, mother, sibling, aunt or cousin, she was good and faithful to her family, her God and friends. She was never idle. Most of all, she was a woman who feared the Lord. She did not fear death and often stated she was ready to go home to be with God. After an extended illness, God ushered her into heaven on September 1st, 2018; Her works speak for her. Now her cares are all past; and she is home at last, ever to rejoice. Well done! Good and faithful servant!

She leaves a legacy of children, their spouses, and grandchildren: Rosie and Lester Ligons of Henryetta, OK; Pastors Earnest & Pat Jordan of Morris, OK; Delores Sims of Okmulgee, OK; Pastor Cleophus & Sharon Jordan of Tulsa OK; Hobart Jordan of Okmulgee OK: Albert Lee Jordan & Lori Jordan of Tulsa, OK; Gerald & Te' Ann Jordan of Stockton, CA; Jimmy Jordan of Springfield, MO; Michael Jordan of Stockton, CA; Lisa Jordan of Houston, TX; and two adopted children, Shamone Jordan of Coweta, OK and Brandyn Harris of Tulsa, OK. Her husband Alonzo, son Alonzo Jordan II and daughter Pamela Jordan all preceded her in death. Her legacy also includes 40 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by sisters and brothers: Gwyndola Rentie of Oklahoma City, OK, Gertie Newsome, Oklahoma City, Ok, James J Rentie Sr. Oklahoma City Oklahoma, Ophelia Rentie Richardson of Wichita, KS; Wendell Smith sand Rosa Smith of Wichita, KS; Oletha Barnett of Desoto, TX; Sylvester Lee Barnett of Okmulgee, OK; Ruth Barnett Roberts and Donald of Arlington, TX; Sharon Barnett of Okmulgee, OK and Gwendola Rentie Owens of Oklahoma City, OK, Gertrude Rentie of California, Gladys Payne of Grayson, OK; Alma Grant of Tulsa, OK and Estella Barnett of California, Keith Smith and Treva of Wichita, KS; George Smith of Aurora, CO, Dennis Smith of Wichita, KS and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
