On July 15, 1934, twin sons were born to William and Eddie Mae Chiles in Boswell (Timber Hill), Oklahoma, and they named them Claude and Clyde. On June 21, 2016, Clyde was called home to be with the Lord.
Clyde loved the country and spent his early years in Timber Hill. The family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1948 where he attended Carver Junior High and Booker T. Washington, graduating in 1954. He also attended Okmulgee Tech. Clyde confessed his life to Christ at an early age and united with First Baptist Church. He later joined Metropolitan and attended until his health failed. In 1955, the twins left for Los Angeles and, shortly after, was drafted into the Army Signal Corp; receiving an honorable discharge in 1958. Clyde was a Tulsa Police Office for six years and also worked for the United Postal Service in Chicago for a while. From there he went to work for American Airlines. He worked at American for 21 years until his retirement. After retirement, he started his own trucking company with his own 48 State Authorities. After a few years he decided to hang it up; however, still restless, he decided to buy a car-crusher. He was the first black man to own a car-crusher in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas. His health started to fail so he decided to give it up and sell out. Clyde was a country boy at heart, and owned and sold several farms.
He met and married Helen Fisher, and to this union a daughter was born, they named her Kimberly.
He later met and married Sharon Dorsey. They were married for 25 years, and to this union a son was born, Clyde Jr. a/k/a Scrappy. "Daddy Clyde" was loved by many and will truly be missed.
His last union was with Etta Chiles of 15 years, step-daughter Tammie McElwee and son-in-law Terrance McElwee. I love you, we are really going to miss you dearly. He also leaves to cherish in his memory: three daughters, Michelle (Wayne) Davis, Grand Prairie, Texas; Lawana Davis of Tulsa, OK; Kimberly (David) Lanum, Stone Mountain, GA; two sons, Andrew Webb and Clyde Chiles Jr.; one brother, Claude (Jeannie) Chiles, of Tulsa, OK; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services for Mr. Clyde Chiles will be Tuesday June 28, 2016 at 11AM at Metropolitan Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens in Skiatook, Oklahoma.
Friends may visit Mr. Chiles on Monday from 1PM until 7PM in the Tulsa Chapel.
