Cora Tennant-McDaniel, a faithful servant of the Lord was called home on June 25, 2008. Cora was born in Bryan, Texas from the union of Mr. William Hall and Mary Louise Curtis Hall. The date: February 3, 1932. Cora attended the Bryan Public School System and was also a proud graduate of Wiley College.
Mrs. Tennant-McDaniel was an unapologetic career English teacher in Texas as well as Oklahoma. She knew at age three that she wanted to teach. Her passion for imparting knowledge to students of all ages shone through in her work at school, her church, and even the organizations she served, and in her home. Even after "retirement," she was regularly found in a Tulsa classroom. She inspired many to pursue the calling of teaching, and she encouraged countless students in whom no one else saw any potential, and patiently worked with them to reveal their special gifts.
From serving as chaplain for her Illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, to writing a column for her church's newsletter, to lovingly sending out notes and cards to those in need, Cora was a hard-fighting servant of the Lord. Her ministry was one of encouragement and those with whom she came in contact will unanimously agree that she was relentless in her desire to nurture, comfort, or gently chide. All in an effort to see them better themselves. She was never too busy to inquire about the welfare of others and freely shared all she had. Cora was a genuinely warm and compassionate person and she had the unique gift of making everyone feel individually special.
Cora was preceded in Heaven by her mother and father. She will be missed by many including her loving and devoted husband, Richard B. McDaniel, JR., her beloved son Melvin Tennant II (Julie), from her first union with Mr. Melvin Tennat, SR., her brothers: Thomas Hall (Grace), Rile Benford (Faye), William Benford, Charles Hall, Stanley H. Hall, Alfred Hall, one sister, Bettye Riley (Billie), and sisters-in-law: Alene Young (Cornelius) and Lorean Lewis. Her greatest love was her grandchildren, Carla Marie Williams, Caroline Elizabeth Tennant-Mack (Jonathan), Matthew Anthony Tennant (Tenisha), Brian Edward Tennant, and Melanie Lorraine Tennant, 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members, neighbors, friends, and colleagues. Praise the Lord for the gift of Cora.
Services will be Wednesday July 2, 2008 at 11AM at Centenary United Methodist Church in Tulsa. Viewing will be on Tuesday from 10AM to 6PM. The Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated will honor their dear Sister on Tuesday at 6PM at the funeral home.
