Obituary


Cora was born July 29, 1924 in Marshall, Texas. She was the Third child born to Willis "Pappa" Bennett and Arzuna Goodspeed Bennett. To this union were born five children, Jewel, Othella, Cora, John and Claudia. Arzuna Bennett passed away in 1938 at an early age. Cora stepped up to help raise her siblings.

She married Freddie Lee Stewart October 18, 1942. She was the mother of three children; Barbara, Freddie, and Carol. The family relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1955.

In 1962 she was employed by International Business Machines (IBM) and started in the clean room lab. She was promoted several times until she retired May 1, 1987.

In 1982 Cora married the love of her life Louis Taylor Jr. in Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved from California to Arizona. July 1993 she moved to East Point Georgia and remained married until he passed on January 16, 1999.

In 1992 she joined St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful servant of God. She became a Deaconess. Cora was a devoted member. She served under Pastor Earl Calloway.

Cora enjoyed life and was extremely active. She was an honorary member of the Bid Whist Master's Card Club since 1993; she loved playing cards, card parties, cooking, music, dancing and spending money.

Cora leaves behind three children: Barbara, Carol and Valorie Taylor.
9 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, friends and caring neighbors. Cora was a woman who loved her family and friends. She will be missed for her sense of humor, style and loving ways.

A Memorial ceremony will be shared on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 2670 Hogan Road, East Point, Georgia.  Reverend Earl Calloway, Officiating.

Mrs. Cora Stewart-Taylor's Cremains will be laid to rest at The Chattanooga Veteran's National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
