Obituary

On October 12, 1948, Clarence and Louise Carr Edwards were blessed with a precious baby boy-gift from God. They named him David Benjamin Edwards. This baby boy was the 7th of 13 children. He was affectionately referred to as "Brother" and "Dave" by his family and friends.

He accepted Christ at an early age at the New Prospect Baptist Church near Rentiesville, Oklahoma. His education began in the Rentiesville Public School System and was completed at the Wichita High School in Wichita, Kansas. Dave entered the workforce, working several jobs.

He later moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he united with the Shiloh Baptist Church. Continuing in the workforce, he worked as a Red Top at St. Francis Hospital, janitorial service for Pentecostal Church of Christ and at Franklin Laboratory as a caretaker.

In Amarillo, he met and married Betty Thomas and from this union, no children were born. This marriage was later dissolved. In 1971, he met and later married Emma Lois Jones Williams on July 3, 1975. This union was blessed to raise four children.

In 1976, Dave and family moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he continued in the workforce at ACME Engineering, where he labored for 28 years. He and his family united with the Little Rose Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained as Deacon on September 3, 1978, under the leadership of the late Reverend M. O. Ledbetter, Jr. There, he was a devoted Deacon in God's program until his declining health. He held offices of Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of Homecoming Committee, Trustee, Bus Driver, Sunday School Teacher, Brotherhood Teacher adn Church Treasurer.

His life came to a close on the 1st day of March, 2007 at 4:10 PM. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother, Hardy, his grandparents, aunts, uncles and his adoring daughter, Vennessa.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Emma Lois; a daughter, Caressa Edwards, Muskogee; two sons, Marlon [Dawn]Edwards, Morris, Oklahoma and David "Ben" [Meekia] Edwards, II, Muskogee; four granddaughters, Brittney Yahola, Morris, Oklahoma, LaShae McHenry, Kanisha Smith and Destiny "Biscuit" Edwards Shumate, all of Muskogee; three grandsons, Dylan Yahola, Trystin Yahola Edwards, both of Morris, Oklahoma and John "LJ" Smith, Muskogee, Oklahoma; four brothers, Earnest [Jeanette] Edwards, Cornelius [Cathy] Edwards, all of Muskogee, Roy Edwards and Bobby Edwards, both of Rentiesville, Oklahoma; four sisters, Earline Crawford, Wichita, Kansas, Wilmer Edwards, Rentiesville, OKlahoma, Edner [Ellis] Lockett, Muskogee, Oklahoma and Carolyn [Donald] Relf, Harrah, Oklahoma; a mother and father-in-law, Melvin and Emma Jean Jones, Amarillo, Texas; a brother-in-law, Melvin "Wayne" Jones, Jr., Amarillo, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Connie Mallory, Amarillo, Texas, Elsie [Jimmy] Smith, Frederick, Oklahoma, Doris [Carl] Washington, San Bernadino, California; along with a caravan of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.

The final tribute will be on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. The Reverend B. W. Noble, the gracious host Pastor, The Reverend Paul S. Washington, the Presidiant and The Reverend James Boyd Harris, the Eulogist. The Christian Committal will follow in the Honey Springs Cemetery at Rentiesville, Oklahoma.
