Obituary

On Monday, July 30, 2012 God ended the suffering of his son David Emerson LeFlore, Sr. and after 93 years in his earthly life took him home to his eternal life.

David was born to the proud parents of Professor Wyatt Curtis and Magnolia Etta Smith-LeFlore on May 14, 1919 in Oktaha, Oklahoma. David was the third of five children. He attended school at Monday's Chapel in Oktaha where he completed elementary school and one year of high school. But David had an inquisitive mind and later would receive his GED after moving to Summit. He was a "free spirit" and relished telling stories of his many travels before settling down and marrying the love of his life, Myrtle. They would share 61 years of marriage before God called her home in 2003.

David grew up in a religious family and he and his wife raised their children in the church and a Christian home. David enlisted in the Army and spent two years serving his country stationed in Italy. He would return to the United States and with his wife and young daughter they moved to New York. After the birth of their second child, David decided it was time to go "home." Back to the country. They would settle in Summit, Oklahoma where he purchased several acres of farmland, built a home, farmed the land and grew his family. The union produced nine wonderful children. Six girls and three boys. After numerous jobs, David would eventually retire from the United States Postal Service.

He leaves in God's care, his sister, Juanita Crawford; seven children, Ethel Jones (Richard), Gardena, CA, Barbara Brooks-Moore, Sacramento, CA, Samuel (Celeste), Missouri City, TX, Magnolia Cumby (Dunn) Oklahoma City, OK, Beverly LeFlore-Woodson, Oklahoma City, OK, Carolyn LeFlore, Muskogee, OK, and Brenda LeFlore, Muskogee, OK, twenty grandchildren; Paul, Duane, Steven, Sherrie, Walter "Gbanje", Golden "Amee", LaRhonica, Reginald, Jonathan, Edward, Erich, Havered "Buddy", Nadia, Ryan, Sarah, Ashley, Renaldo "Curt", Nicholas, "Nicky Boy", and Deven "Devie-Boy, fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Myrtle, three brothers, two sons, Wyatt Curtis and David Jr., and grandson Jeremy "Jay-Bird".
