On April 29, 1939, a baby boy was delivered by a midwife in Nuyaka, Oklahoma from the union of Ellis and Flora [Williams] Johnson, Sr. They named their son Ellis Johnson, Jr.
He attended the Nuyaka School system from kindergarten until 12th grade. After reaching manhood, he worked for over 30 years for Ball Brothers in Okmulgee until the company relocated. Afterwards, he worked at Kwikset in Bristow, Oklahoma before finally retiring from Tulsa Winch company.
Mr. Johnson was a devoted and faithful member of the Church of God in Christ, where he was a member of Eastside Church of God in Christ in Okmulgee. He served the Lord faithfully as a Deacon.
He was a calf roper and loved the Rodeo during his lifetime. He thoroughly enjoyed calf- roping, rodeoing, was a member of the Round Up Club and enjoyed Hunting and fishing as well as had a love for dogs.
During his early years, he married Lessie Johnson and their union was blessed with a daughter, Sheila A. Johnson. Also, two step-sons were raised in the family, Floyd Younger, Jr., and Nathaniel Fields, whom he raised as his own. Their married lasted for 28 years before Sister Johnson preceded him in death.
Later in life, Deacon Johnson united in marriage to Inez Thompson, and their family was blended with seven additional step-children.
After 79 years with us, on Tuesday night, November 13, 2018, Deacon Ellis Johnson, Jr., traveled up "that Highway called Holiness" from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lessie Johnson, his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a step-son.
He leaves in God's care; his loving wife, Inez Johnson; his daughter, Sheila Johnson; eight step-sons and a step-daughter; a grandson, Dayvonte Miller; and a caravan of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family, church family and friends.
The Hour of Remembrance for Deacon Johnson will commence on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the St. Matthews Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in the Sharp Cemetery, southwest of the city.
