Floyd Newton was born on September 15, 1953, in Okay, Wagoner County, Oklahoma, as the seventh of eight children born to the union of Frank Newton and A. D. (McDowell) Newton.

At an early age, Floyd embraced his faith, professing his hope in Christ and receiving his baptism at St. John Baptist Church of Gibson Station.

Raised in Wagoner County, he completed his early education at Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School in Gibson Station before graduating from Okay High School in 1971. Floyd's love for sports, particularly basketball, was evident as he showcased exceptional skills, even achieving a remarkable feat of scoring a record-high 52 points in a single game, all before the 3-point line was introduced.

Throughout his life, Floyd was an active participant in his community. He served for six years in the National Guard in Wagoner, Oklahoma, and later pursued a career in construction, working alongside his father at Curtis L. Cunningham Construction and Dave Freeman Construction. Floyd's strong work ethic soon led him to become an entrepreneur and open his janitorial service. His career ultimately led him to
an opportunity at the Tulsa Ford Glass Plant, where he devotedly served for 32 years until his well-deserved retirement.

As a young man, Floyd met Sherry Rawlings Powell of Taft, Oklahoma, and together, they welcomed a beautiful son named Cornelius Darnell Powell. Floyd later married Geraldine Palmer of Taft, Oklahoma, and from this union, two beautiful children were born, Allisa Lynn and Rico Lamar. Despite the later dissolution of the marriage, Floyd remained a loving and devoted father. Following a long courtship, Floyd married Marsha Washington on March 21, 1987. They made their home in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and welcomed two beautiful boys into their family, Dewayne Jordan and Nicholas Charles. Throughout his adult life, Floyd was a devoted and loving husband and father who joyfully provided for his family.

Deacon Floyd was a devoted man of faith who had a profound love for God and was a dedicated, hardworking member of the Central Missionary Baptist Church of Muskogee. His commitment to serving wherever God needed him was evident through his involvement in numerous roles, including Ordained Deacon, Drill Team Drill Sergeant, Brotherhood President, choir member, member of the Brotherhood Chorus, Church Treasurer, and Church Trustee. He also served as Secretary of the Progressive Creek District Association.

On February 17, 2024, in Hillcrest Medical Center of Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Lord, in His infinite wisdom, relieved Floyd of his suffering and called
his servant home from labor to reward. Floyd was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Clint, Jeff, Eugene, Ronnie, and Robert; and son, Cornelius Powell.

Those left to cherish Floyd's memory include his loving wife, Marsha, of the home; three sons, Rico Newton of Tulsa, OK, Dewayne Newton of Muskogee, OK, and Nicholas Newton of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter, Allisa Younger (Demarlon) of Tulsa, OK; he is also survived by his sister, Franclo Murray of Kansas City, KS; brother, Chester Jack (Diana) Newton of Muskogee, OK; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Newton of Taft, OK, Frankie Newton and Sherron Newton, both of Muskogee, OK; fifteen grandchildren, Cornelius JaCory Powell, DeAngelo Powell Newton, Annisa Younger, Ashlyn Younger, Demartrae Younger, Ri'Nyisha Newton, Rico Newton, Jr., Miracle Newton, Christian Newton, Nicholas Andrew Newton, Zoe Newton, Heiress Newton, Abigail Newton, Aylessia Newton, and Khyanna Newton; two great- grandchildren, Kamari and Paisley; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Floyd will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a kind and caring man who touched the lives of many. His legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and service to his church and community
will live on for generations to come.
