Deanie O'Dell (Johnson) Butler was born on March 16, 1940,
in Edna, Oklahoma, to John and Ida Mae Johnson. She was
raised in Edna, Oklahoma, by her mother and stepfather Harry
Brooks. A nephew Michael Cole, a son Jerry Butler, her mother,
and two brother James "Dutch" Cole and Norman "Bug" Cole
preceded her in death.
Deanie accepted Christ and attended Emmanuel Baptist
Church in Spencer, Oklahoma, and True Vine Baptist Church
(now True Vine Ministries, Inc.) in Spencer, Oklahoma, where
she was a Sunday School teacher and an active member of the
church's witnessing team.
Deanie graduated from Slick High School in Slick, Oklahoma,
in 1958. After finishing school, she married and moved to Oklahoma
City with Sherman Butler, Sr. They were blessed with four
sons, two being twins.
Around 1970, after finishing business school, Deanie began
her career at American Red Cross—Oklahoma City Chapter
where she was employed for 30 years. She received numerous
accolades for her training and work performance.
Deanie planned to retire to spend time with her mother and
sisters, but her mother passed away before her retirement. When
she retired she became a caregiver with the Visiting Angels, taking
care of the elderly. She discontinued working due to her decline
in health.
Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Sherman Butler, Jr.
of Midwest City, OK, Herman Butler of Bristow, OK, and Terry
Butler of Midwest City, OK, two sisters Maxine Cole of Okmulgee,
OK, and Erma Jean (Sydney, Sr.) Lewis of Bristow, OK,
one brother Floyd (Gladys) Johnson of Bristow, four grandchildren
she dearly loved, Donisha Butler and LaTasha Butler of
Oklahoma City, OK, Matthew Butler of Oklahoma City, OK, and
Tiana Butler of Midwest City, OK, and a host of nieces, nephews,
other relatives, and friends.
Service of Memory for Mrs. Butler will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the First Baptist Church South, Beggs, Oklahoma. Reverend Greg Lewis will officiate. Burial will follow in the Tuskegee Cemetery at Edna, Oklahoma.
