IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Deary
Vaughn
November 21, 1936 – December 15, 2020
Dr. Deary "Mickey" Vaughn often shared his sentiment of living a life of service/work that speaks for him upon his departure,
and that he did… He entered his eternal rest in the early hours of December 15, 2020, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma,
"surrounded by love" with his girls at his side. Petite in stature but certainly a giant among his family and friends, the world lost a
quiet giant, and Heaven gained an angel.
Deary was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to Laura (Hines) and Elijah Vaughn. His parents taught him a love of his Savior and his devotion to God, shaping his personal integrity, honor, and commitment to humanitarianism and excellence. Deary was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, on the Membership Committee, and as Vice-President of the Usher Board.
He joined the United States Army in late 1954 and immediately opted to serve his country in the United States Air Force in 1955.
While serving this country in the United States Armed Forces, he was assigned tours in Ft. Benning, Georgia; Ft. Walton Beach,
Florida; Topeka, Kansas; Wiesdaden and Rhein Main, Germany; and finally, Tinker AFB in Oklahoma, where he retired as
CMSGT after 33 years of service. After his retirement, he began working for the Disabled American Veterans as a Service Officer
and continued to until his retirement in 1998. He was the Master Mason and served the fraternal order until his divine departure.
He served at every level of masonry and held every leadership position the fraternity offers until he was called home by his heavenly
father. From picture-perfect photographer in the Air Force to a dynamic service officer in the civil service, from the birth of his
children and ultimately the patriarch of over 30 descendants, to a high honor in his Masonic devotion and his humble service and
charity to God, he shined in all that he did. He loved his God, his family, and his country. He served them all with excellence and
with an eye to the Glory of God. He is now free to return to his Savior and his beloved wife, Esther, where he can now "kiss his Lil'
Bit" once again.
He was preceded in his eternal journey by his father, Elijah Vaughn; his mother, Laura Vaughn; his only sister, Jean Douglass; his
brothers, Elijah Jr. "Sonny", Jesse, and Estee Vaughn; his beloved wife, Esther; his sons, Larry Staton and Franklin Vaughn; his
daughter, Chaunda Vaughn; and his grandson, Dorian Dawkins.
