Obituary

Deborah Dorcas Toles was born on September 7, 1954, to the late Pastor Raymond and the late District Missionary Mary Sanders-Toles in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the historical Baptist Hospital.  She was the fifth of nine children. Deborah accepted the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age as a member of Sunshine Band. Deborah attended Flint Michigan public schools and during elementary through high school.  In 1963-1965 she attended elementary school in Muskogee, Oklahoma.  Deborah graduated senior high school in 1971 at Central High School, Flint, Michigan.

For many years she was employed by General Motors in Flint Michigan.  She met the love of her life.  Mr. Curtis J. Wicker Sr. and Deborah Dorcas Toles wedded in 1978 in Flint Michigan.  To this union, the couple was graced with the birth of one son Curtis J. Wicker Jr. and a daughter Amber F. Wicker.  Now they were a blended family along with Deborah's love and first daughter, Natwanna Toles.  This marriage was dissolved by mutual agreement.  Deborah moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1991 and was employed at various nursing homes and senior assisted living organizations as a Medical Aide.  Deborah met and became very special partners with Mr.  Jefferson Cordell Edwards and from this union a son, Stephen Jamal Edwards, affectionately called "BackPack '' by his loving Grandmother the late Missionary Mary Sanders-Toles.  Later she moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and was employed at AT&T and retired after some years there.

Deborah had attended Goodwill Church of God in Christ Inc. and Galilee Outreach-Inreach Church of God in Christ in Muskogee, Oklahoma  One of her passions introduced by her late mother was singing gospel songs.  One of her favorites was "He Was There All the Time".  When she would sing the atmosphere translated into a peaceful and tranquility filled the air.  She was a dedicated daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and employee. She will be remembered as a person who loved living and loved to hear family laughing and enjoying themselves.  She was one of three sisters and six brothers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Pastor Raymond and District Missionary Mary Sanders-Toles; brother, Michael Toles; sister. Sarah Toles; and her grandparents.

On Friday, January 21, 2022, a patient in the hospital with her children and partner by her side, Ms. Deborah Dorcas Toles, transitioned to her eternal reward after her service to her loved ones and friends.  She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted son/caretaker, Stephen Jamaal Edwards: her devoted partner, Jefferson Cordell Edwards, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: her devoted daughter Natwanna Toles, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma her son she loved, Curtis Wicker Jr. Flint, Michigan and daughter she loved, Amber F. Wicker, Flint, Michigan; Grand daughters Sarah Porter, Addison, Texas; Juanee and Jaylan Wicker; grand sons:  Akil Jones, Dallas, Texas; Raymond Toles, Dallas,Texas; Rise Powell, Flint, Michigan; great-grand daughter, Javioni Hall and Mia Torres, Dallas, Texas; great-grandson, Xavier Torres, Dallas, Texas.  One Sister Mary(Roosevelt)Toles Brice, Brother John(Roxanne) Toles both of Muskogee, Oklahoma; eldest brother, Raymond Toles, Adelphi, Maryland; brothers: Ronald Toles, Salinas, California; Anthony Toles, Onawa, Iowa; Lester Toles, San Jose, California. Two Aunts:  Esther Utsey, Inglewood, California; Elnora Austin, Sacramento, California; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; God-Brother, Clark Gilford Sr., Muskogee, Oklahoma;  and every person she has touched throughout her life.
