Her Story

On August 7, 1957, a beautiful baby girl was born to Mamie Louise Hill and Pat Paterson. They lovingly named her Debra. She was adopted by Henery and Ada Barber.

From an early age, Debra had a passion for cooking, a skill that brought joy to those around her. She faced life's challenges with strength and resilience, surviving through hardships with unwavering faith. Through her journey, God's protection and grace guided her steps.

Debra's warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit left a lasting impact on everyone she met. Her memory will forever be treasured by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.  May she rest in eternal peace.

Debra attended Lawton Public School in Lawton, Oklahoma. She eventually went on to live with Willie Johnson and had a son, Edward Dante Sargent, and two daughters, Khymyatta Sargent and Brheanna Sargent.

Outside of her time as a mother, Debra worked as a restaurant manager. She was known for her generosity, often giving out free hamburgers to those in need.  Debra was known for her famous pies and cakes, which she lovingly baked every day. Friends and family would often stop by to enjoy her delicious treats, sharing in the warmth and love she always extended.

Debra leaves to mourn her children: Khymyatta Sargent and Brheanna Sargent; her grandchildren: Brooklyn, John, and Dante Sargent; and her great-grandchildren: Zytavis Larkpor and Shyanna Washington.

Debra is also survived by her siblings: Marshall Gee Pass, Allen Hill, Patricia Hill, Valerie Hill, Marshynn Hill, Ronnie Hill, Michael Littlejohn (Louisiana), Darryl Johnson (Nevada), and Dshalanda Johnson. She is also remembered by her extended family, including Sherry Shasta Wilson.
