Demetrice LaRose [Dan] Harton was born on September 6, 1965 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was the third child born to the union of Raymond and Bea [Currin] Dan. Demetrice lived in the Checotah area most of her life. She attended Checotah Public Schools and was baptized at the Morning Star Baptist Church, west of Checotah.
Demetrice was united in marriage to Andre' Harton. They were blessed with one daughter, Arquesha. Demetrice was a unique person. She was a devoted friend to many, generous and loyal, sharing her home and her resources with anyone who needed help. She worked in various positions, but was most happy as a house manager for Jimmy Skillern. Her most recent employment was with the Checotah Creek Nation Headstart program. She enjoyed playing dominoes and spending time wiht her friends.
God called her home on Tuesday morning, February 20, 2007 at 3:15 A.M. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ragel Dan, her paternal and maternal grandparents, a step-son, Andrew, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her daughter, ArQuesha, of the home; three step-children, Adrian, Allen and Andrea Harton; her mother, Beatrice Dan; her father and step-mother, Raymond and Debra Dan; her brothers, Raymond "Spunk" [Cassandra], Darell Wright Dan, Justin and Jason DAn, all of Checotah; her sisters, Aquanetta Smith, Shevetta Lee and Krystal Ford, Muskogee; Tara Ford, Checotah and Shavon Dan, Oklahoma City; a special son, Raymon Jackson; a special brother, DeShawn Jackson; a special mom and dad, Larry and Rosie Hughes; her uncles and aunts, Ellis and Dana Warrior, Albert and Susie Greenleaf, William "Gano" and Betty Dan, Eugene and Janetta Lee, Mary Dan, Mitchell and Estelle Francis, Eugene and Ellen Colbert, Fred and Rosie Hutton, Charles and Sherry Currin, Mike Currin, Frank Currin, Odessa Curry, David C. and Bernice Jackson, Minnie Loggins, Cecil and Jacqueline Robinson, Vicky Smith-Currin, Annetta "D" Hardemon, Randolph and Vivian Barnes, Sandra Currin Moore, Pamela and Paula Currin and Gail Currin; great-uncles, Mitch Goudeau, Freddie Goudeau, and Connie [Charlene] Goudeau; special cousins, Gaynell Warrior, Darla and Andrea Dan and Anthony Lee; special friends, Brian Davis, Jimmy Skillern and "Slick"; along with a caravan of other relatives and friends.
The farewell tribute will be on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. in the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, west of Checotah, Oklahoma. Reverend Eli Behn, the gracious host pastor and Reverend Samuel Harper, the officiant. Burial will follow in Warrior Cemetery at Checotah.
