Obituary

Ms. Diane Curry, in her 66th year, surrendered her soul to Jesus on Monday, July 5, 2021 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She Born on December 29, 1954, at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle, Washington, to Ostennia Johnson and Charles Harris.

Diane graduated from Cleveland High School in Seattle, Washington in 1973, and continued to Mr. Lee's Beauty College where she obtained a cosmetology and instructor license. She worked as an instructor for Mr. Lee's for several years before moving to Oklahoma.

On December 31, 1979, Diane and Carl J. Barnes were united in holy matrimony.  They moved to Philadelphia where they began their hair business. Upon arriving in Okmulgee, she and Carl opened a beauty salon called "Hair Doctors," on Wood Drive for several
years. Later she opened Unique Designs Salon on 7th street catering to a diversity of clients.

Diane developed a relationship with God at an early age. She was an active member of the Church of the Living God in Seattle, WA, at a young age through adulthood. Upon moving to Okmulgee, Oklahoma she joined New Salem Baptist Church where her father Rev. Charles Harris was the Pastor. She continued to be a faithful member of New Salem until God called her to Glory. She enjoyed being active in the church, being a member and President of the Usher Board for her time at New Salem.

In April, 1999, Diane was ordained as a Deaconess by Rev P.W. Jackson. She was called the "Hat Sister" because she loved to wear stylish hats, especially to church.

Diane loved her family! As a teenager Diane enjoyed entertaining the young children, telling entertaining stories, playing games, encouraging, and providing life advice to the teenagers. She attended every event of her children, nieces, nephews, and cousins, proudly.  Diane gave birth to two children Kevin Loren Curry and Robert Louis Curry. She loved her children with all her heart, they were her life. She talked about them as any proud mother would. She lost Kevin when he was fifteen years old and struggled for years recovering from that loss. Robert came many years later and they developed an inseparable bond.

Diane is preceded in death by her son Kevin L. Curry, her mother, Bishop Ostennia Curry, her father, Rev. Charles Harris, stepfather, Clarence Curry, Sr., sisters Dorothy L. Curry, Linda Harris, and brother, Clarence Curry, Jr., and a ex-husband Larry Simpkins.
