"As We Reflect"
On January 31, 1947, a precious bundle of joy was born to Ben Butler, Sr., and Evelyn Hawkins Butler in Hugo, Oklahoma. He was their 7th child. This bundle of joy was beautiful bouncing boy named Donald Eugene Butler. Don confessed his belief in God at an early age while attending Hugo Chapel Baptist Church.

Don was an honor student and a high achiever during his elementary, middle and high school years. He was an All-state football player, and played in the marching band. Don received his Bachelor's Degree from Langston University where graduated Suma Cum Laude. While at Langston, Don entered Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through the Beta Kappa Chapter. There, he also met and married Delois Ann Gentry on December 26, 1970. Their union produced one child, Corey Don Butler. He was also and extremely proud father of Vincent and Vashina Butler. Mr. Butler received his Master's Degree from Oklahoma State University in Bio Environmental Engineering. He was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Hydrologist for 41 years where he was planning a retirement date in late December 2013.

Donald was such a devoted and loving husband, and father. He was mild mannered, and such a good and caring man. He was a true friend to all who knew him. He served as a deacon of Paradise Baptist Church for many years and worked faithfully in the homeless ministry. He sincerely enjoyed serving the homeless men and women of Tulsa on a regular basis.

Those remaining to cherish shared memories of Don are his loving wife, Delois Butler, his children whom he loved dearly: Corey Butler, Tulsa, OK., Vincent Butler (Jackie), Rowlett, TX., and Vashina Butler, Oklahoma City, OK., one sibling, Mildred Coursey (Raydell), Poplar Bluff, MO., cousins raised by his parents: Clentis Weatherall, Houston, TX., Willie Weatherall, Iowa, and Greta Evans (Joe), Hugo, OK., grandchildren: Bryce Butler, Mykenzie Butler, Kynadi Butler, Vincent Butler, Jr., Sashe Butler, Brandon Hawkins, and Brook Hawkins, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, & friends.
