Donald's Journey

We reflect on the life and legacy of Donald Howell Green. December 28, 1956 was a special day in Muskogee Oklahoma when a precious boy and bundle of joy was born to Otto Green and Annie Mae Shoates Green . They named him Donald Howell Green, the youngest of 11 children.

Donald attended Muskogee public schools and graduated from Muskogee high school class of 1975. While in Muskogee high school he joined ROTC. He graduated from Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake Washington with a focus in Mathematics.

During his service to our country Donald received the following commendations: Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon and the Army Service Ribbon.

He was raised in a Christian home. He gave his life to Christ at Faith Mission COGIC under the leadership of Pastor Sedell Campbell. He later followed his pastor to New Balm Outreach Ministries.

1983 proved to be a special year for Don and he was united in marriage with Charlene Johnson February 23 rd , 1983. They enjoyed 29 years of marriage together.

His love for the ROTC and admiration for his older brothers led him to join the United States Army. Donald served the military from November 1975 to 1995 and proudly served during Desert Storm. After 20 years he decided to retire. He received numerous accommodations in War certificates during his service in the US military. He enjoyed and spent most of his military career at Fort Knox.

Donald was a kind man. His joy in life was helping others. It all originated from his love of Jesus where he said it is a blessing to give then to receive. He had a very giving spirit. He would always encourage the people that things are going to be alright. He did all he could to meet the need. He had a love for his all-terrain bikes and restoring antique vehicles.
