Donald Ray Shumate was born on October 20, 1944, the son of Johnnie and Beulah [Donald] Shumate .  Donald Ray was raised and educated in Tullahassee, Oklahoma.  He then served his country in the Army National Guard.  Donald Ray was employed in the construction industry for many years, as well as working other odds and end jobs.

Mr. Shumate united in marriage to Rose Marie Clemons and from this union, one son was born, Donald Ray Shumate, Jr., who is also known as "Head".  This union was later dissolved.

Donald Ray confessed his belief in Jesus Christ and united with the Blackjack Baptist Church, where he remained a member until his passing.  He was a man that was faithful to his Pastor and Church family.  Mr. Shumate had a special passion for dressing sharp – every part of his outfits had to be just right.

On Saturday afternoon, March 28, 2024, Donald Ray Shumate, Sr., in his 79th year of life, received his rest and went home to be with the Lord.  There waiting to greet him;  his parents, eight siblings, George, ruby, Thelma, Johnnie Jr., Shirley, Delois, Theodes and Marvin.

He leaves in God's care;  his children, Donald Ray Shumate, Jr., Donald Ray, III, and Renette Vann;  a brother, Marvin Shumate;  14 Grandchildren;  12 Great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; also, a special friend, Brenda Ledbetter and a life partner, Linda Hall.

The Final Hour with Mr. Shumate will commence on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the most holy sanctuary of the Rayfield Baptist Church.  Reverend Leroy Walker, Sr., is the gracious host and Reverend Rico Porter, Pastor of Blackjack Baptist Church will officiate.
