Celebrating the Life of Donzella Street Heard
May 15, 1935 – March 24, 2025
With hearts full of love and memories, we celebrate the life of Donzella Street Heard, her life was rich with stories, laughter, and the love of family and friends.
Born on May 15, 1935, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Donzella was the youngest of seven children born to Alva and Prince Street. Growing up on Latimer Street, she cherished those early days and often shared colorful stories of her youth—stories full of laughter, and sisterly mischief. Donzella graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and later attended Tennessee State University, paving the way for a life full of adventure, love, and family.
Donzella was a natural-born social butterfly. From a young age, she made friends wherever she went—so many that her mother would often call around town just to track her down. Her warm and sincere disposition, her great personality, and her sweet, kind nature made her beloved by everyone she met. She lived for connection, joy, and of course, a good time.
Later in life, Donzella began her career at Kaiser Permanente, where she formed lifelong friendships that brought her happiness and support. She joined First Baptist Church of Glenarden, further enriching her life with faith and fellowship.
Donzella had many passions. She loved to cook—famous for her peach cobblers, roasts, candied sweet potatoes, green-rice casseroles and dressing. She enjoyed traveling freely, often purchasing one-way tickets so she could stay as long as her heart desired. An avid reader and MSNBC enthusiast, she always stayed current with the latest news. She also enjoyed watching sports, though if her team was in a tight game, she'd either change the channel or retreat to another room, unable to watch the suspense unfold.
Donzella was preceded in death by her beloved son Steven Craig Mack, her husband Harold C. Heard Jr., and her siblings Prince Street Jr., Mary Ellen Walton, Dorothy Davis, Harold Street, Flossie Robbins, and Jean Bass.
She leaves behind a loving legacy cherished by her sons Harold C. Heard III and Terrald Heard, her grandsons Shemel and Isaiah Heard, a host of nieces and nephews, her bonus families including daughter Nancy Harris and grandson Myles Olufemi—all of whom will miss her dearly.
Donzella lived life to the fullest—out and about, having fun, laughing, loving, and enjoying herself with family and friends. Her spirit, stories, and smile will live on in all of us. She will be missed, truly one of a kind.
