Obituary

Mrs. Dorethea S. Lawson, after 93 years, "crossed from Earth to Everlasting" on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

To the proud parents of Earnest and Lutishia Wright was born Dorethea S. Wright on February 13, 1925 in Wagoner , Oklahoma. She was united in marriage to John Wesley Lawson and to this union seven children was born.

She graduated from Lincoln High School, Wagoner , Oklahoma. Dorethea matriculated to Lincoln University, in Jefferson City , Missouri and completed her advanced degree at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma.

She began her teaching career at Wheatley School in Boynton, Oklahoma and later moved to Boynton Public Schools during the desegregation movement. Dorethea also taught adult education classes and was the original sponsor of the school cheerleading squad. During the course of her educational career, she inspired many to believe in themselves and to accomplish their goals. She retired after 33 years of teaching.

Her favorite things to do were lots and lots of shopping, watching sports, and gardening . She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Her favorite quote was, " Nothing is going to stop me from appreciating the beauty of the world."

She leaves to cherish her memory; seven children, John Wesley Lawson Jr, (Melanie), Maple Grove , MN, Brenda Coleman, Atlanta, GA, Rita Lawson Boynton, Kenneth Lawson (Lena), Oklahoma City, Pamela Lawson (Rudy) ,Oklahoma City, Michelle Lawson, Los Angeles, CA, Denise Lawson-Irons (Marcus), Denver, CO; 30 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband John Wesley Lawson Sr, sisters Kathryn Hill, Shirley Aytch, Fern Keys, brothers Earl Wright, Louis Wright, and Earnest Wright Jr.

The Sacred farewell for Mother Lawson will commence on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the most holy sanctuary of the Rayfield Baptist Church in Muskogee.  The Pastor, Reverend Leroy Walker, Sr., will officiate.  Burial will follow the service in the Cane Creek Cemetery in Boynton, Oklahoma.

You may visit Mrs. Lawson, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the Rayfield Baptist Church  on Thursday morning, beginning at 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM.  The casket will not be opened at the conclusion of the service.
