A beautiful, baby girl was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1952 in Muskogee, Oklahoma from the loving union of Booker T. and Daisy Mae Maxwell, Sr. and they lovingly named her Doris Jean.
Doris accepted Christ at an early age at the Northside Church of Christ under Pastor Jim Mick. Later in life, she united with the Mount Calvary Baptist Church under the pastoral guidance of the late Dr. J. A. Reed, Sr., and then under Rev. Gary Hall, Sr., and remained a member until her death. She grew up in Muskogee, where she attended Dunbar Elemenatry, Sadler Junior High and Historic Manual Training High School, and after the schools integrated, she graduated from Muskogee High School.
She met a young man, John Lee Adams, and they fell in love. This love led to Holy Matrimony and their loved was blessed with two children. Doris will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for the special things she did; especially for providing candy to the neighborhood kids and was known as the "Candy Lady." Everyone loved the special treat she prepared referred to as "sex in the pan" pie. She will never be forgotten by her family and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Adams helped to provide for her family through her employment with Swift Poultry Company, then later, with Coburn Optical Lens Plant for many years before moving on to UNARCO, where she rendered over twenty years of service until her health began to fail her.
In her 61st Season of Life, Doris Jean Adams heard a voice from Heaven say "Well done my good and faithful servant; it's time for you to come walk around Heaven with me to a life of no more pain and suffering" on Monday, July 28, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, her father, her grandparents, her son, John Lee Adams, III, two step-sons, a sister-in-law Carolyn, and a brother-in-law, Leonard.
She leaves wonderful memories to cherish in the hearts of her loving family; her mother, Daisy Mae Cherry and her mother-in-law, Mary Adams; her daughter, Johnetta [Marcus]; three step-daughters, Angie and Lacauna, Muskogee and Andrea, Oklahoma City; two step-sons, Justin, Kansas City, Kansas and Vernon Evans, Tulsa; three precious grandchildren, Dorlisa, Robert and Brandie; five brothers, Booker Maxwell, Jr., Eugene Maxwell [Debbie] and Edward Maxwell, all of Muskogee, Donald Maxwell, Lawton, Oklahoma and James Cherry [Dorthea], Ft.
