Mrs. Doris Jean Wesley, after 60 years, surrendered to the the will of God on Tuesday morning, October 2, 2007 from the Highland Park Manor in Okmulgee.
Born Doris Jean Taylor in Okmulgee on March 16, 1947, she grew up in Okmulgee where she attended Okmulgee Public Schools, culminating with graduation from Historic Dunbar High School, Class of 1968.
Doris loved to crochet, enjoyed reading and baking, as well as traveling. In her eyes, family always came first. She lived in Lawrence, Kansas, where he was active serving the Lord at the St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church. She played the piano, directed the choir and was a trustee of the church for over 20 years.
She labored for over 15 years for Hallmark Cards before her retirement. While in Lawrence, Kansas, her best friends were like her sisters, Floree Dillon and Barbara Clark.
A devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves with broken hearts; her daughters, Angela Bowie, Dallas, Texas and LaShaun Thompson, Lawrence, Kansas; her brothers, Son Taylor, Jr., Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Edward Taylor, Tulsa, Oklahoma; her sisters, Bobbie Jones, Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Emma Wakefield and Faye Ford, both of Los Angeles, California; five grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
The final hour will be on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 3:00 P.M. in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1500 N. Miami Ave. Rev. David Burks, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Okmulgee Cemetery.
