As summer was coming to an end, and a new season beginning, God gave life to Doris Ellen in Boynton, Oklahoma on September 2, 1944 to the proud parents of Robert Adolph Stephens and Verniece Lavern Petties Stephens. Doris graduated from Boynton High School in with the class of 1962. She was a music lover and loved to sing and was a gifted pianist.
The strong bond of family encouraged Doris to move to Chicago, Illinois where her mother lived. While in Chicago, she attended Chicago Teachers College. There she met and married Mr. Maurice Williams. Their union produced three beautiful daughters. After starting a family, Doris and Maurice moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1969. There she began a career with the City of Detroit where she retried as a Payroll Supervisor in 2003. Her strong family times took over once again, and she returned to Oklahoma settling in Tulsa.
On January 1, 2011, Doris answered yet another call home. She is now dwelling in the secret place of the most high where she is now abiding under the shadow of the almighty. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Stacy Lavern Williams, Tulsa, OK., Pamela Maurice Patton, Tulsa, OK., and Wendy Ruth Jones (Samuel Jones, Sr.) Detroit, MI., brother, Cordell A. Stephens, Rowlett, TX., sisters: Shelly Taylor, Detroit, MI., and Gloria Lowe, California, grandchildren: Terrance, Felicia, Brandy, Samantha, Jasmine, Samuel, Jr., Carly and Monae, great-grandchildren: Malaysia, Terrance, Tina, Daizon, and Mackenzie, one special aunt, Mrs. Odessa Jacobs, Tulsa, OK., along with a host of other relatives and other friends.
Services for Doris Ellen Williams, a retired supervisor of the City of Detroit will be Saturday January 8, 2011 at 10AM at Praise Center Family Church in Tulsa. Visitaion will be Friday from 12Noon-7PM.
