On July 10, 1926, in Eagletown, Oklahoma, Mitchell Cubit and Rosa Lean Collins Cubit become the proud parents of a beautiful, precious baby girl. They named her Dorothy Mae.
Dorothy grew up in Colbert, Oklahoma, with one brother and two sisters. They moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma, where she started her family. Dorothy Mae began her career as a long-term care provider during this time, as well.
When she wasn't sharing her love with others, she was an outstanding member of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Reeves Addition area of Muskogee., where she served the Lord faithfully as Church Treasure for many years.
In her 86th Season of Life, Dorothy Mae Atkinson answered the Master's beckoning on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 from Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was met at the Golden Gates by her mother and father, Mitchell and Rosa Lean Cubit, her brother, George Cubit, two sisters, Lenora Bell and Carrie Wattley, two daughters, Brenda Faye and Grace Ann Atkinson.
She leaves behind to be comforted by God and to cherish her memory; her sons, Elmer [Elnora] Crittendon, Jr., of Checotah, Oklahoma and Kevin Ray [Nickisha] Lee, Sr., Muskogee, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Donnett Foster, Michael Atkinson, Shatoya Lee, Phillip Atkinson, Kevin Lee, Jr., Shunay Lee, William Oates, Dominique Lee, Shaquille Lee, Kadesha Williams, Myesha Lee, De'Riayah Lee; five great-grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
The Hour of Remembrance will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the Morning Star Baptist Church, in the Warrior Community west of Checotah. Reverend Eli Behn, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Warrior Cemetery.
