February 3, 1935 – July 15, 2022
Dorothy "Dottie" Jaree Betts born Sunday, Feb 3, 1935; a beautiful bright-eyed baby girl was the first-born child from the union of Starling Douglas Betts and Ollie Mae (Davis) Betts - began life in Dean's Addition, Muskogee, OK. Her bright eyes foretelling the strong yet gentle kindness of spirit within. After a life well lived, Dorothy departed this world softly on July 15, 2022.
Dottie matriculated through Muskogee Public Schools, graduating from Manuel Training High School. She pursued higher education, obtaining a Master's Degree in Science from Briar Cliff University, Sioux City, Iowa. She retired with honors in 1999 from Muskogee General Hospital after working her way to Supervisor of the Laboratory. Dottie traveled the world with the distinction of setting foot on all seven continents.
She was a faithful member of St Joseph Catholic Church, Catholic Charities, and the Catholic Alter Society. Dottie was also a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Dottie was preceded in death by her loving parents - Starling Douglas Betts and Ollie Mae (Davis) Betts; sister, Rita Betts Watson; and brother-in-law, Willie "Chilly" Watson. She leaves to morn first cousins - Eva Elaine (Johnson) Wartson, Clarence Johnson, James Earl Davis, LaVerne Davis, Sam Davis, Doretha "Tiny" (Kenneth "Red") Russell, Virilyaih Scroggins, Debara Davis, Rhonda Parish, Mark Davis; and Special Cousin, who Dorothy was a steadfast influence on her successful pursuit of becoming a physician – Dayna (Jamaal) Dennis, M.D. Additional faithful relatives/friends to mention include: Georgia Davis, Edie McJunkins, Mildred Colbert, Toni Redo, and Patria Johnson. She also leaves a host of friends and loving family members in the Muskogee, Tulsa, and Wichita communities
The Funeral Mass for Ms. Betts will commence on Friday, July 22, 2022 at the Tenth Hour at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Muskogee.
You may visit her as she rest in sweet slumber on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM in The People's Chapel of Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc.,-Muskogee.
The Rosary service will take place following the viewing on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Her sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., will render the rituals of their Memorial Ceremony of Sister Betts, beginning Thursday at 6 PM in The People's Chapel of Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc.,-Muskogee. The public is invited to attend.
Burial will immediately follow the services in the Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
