"Reflections"
On February 19, 1928 a bouncing baby girl was born to J.B. Brown and Lorena Nash Brown in Mounds, Oklahoma. They named their bundle of joy Dorothy Marie Brown. Marie, as she was affectionately called, grew up in Mounds and attended Lowrance Grade School in Sapulpa. She graduated high school in 1945 from Booker T. Washington in Sapulpa. After high school, Marie worked as an apprentice with her Aunt Leslie, and would earn her certification in Cosmetology.
Moving back to Mounds, Marie joined St. Mary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Thad Brown. During her time at St. Mary she was president of the G4 girls. Mrs. Brown then reunited with an old classmate, Louie Brown. Louie and Marie married on September 28, 1946. To this loving union, seven wonderful children were born: Donnie, Linda, Pat, Louie "Piggy," Michael, Carolyn, and Edwin.
The family would matriculate to Okmulgee in the community of Sharps where she attended St. Mary Church under the leadership of Rev. McDaniel of Bristow. There she worked as a secretary and in Missions. The family later moved to the township of Okmulgee and joined Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Raymond Nash and then C.J. Jeffrey JR. and current Pastor Rev. Judson Fields. Her SERVICE included choir member, president of Matron Circle and president of Junior Women. She remained active in her Matron Circle even though she was unable to attend regularly.
Marie loved to fish. You could find her at the lake before daybreak getting her fishing poles together preparing for the catch of the day. She was also known as the "Domino Queen" to all her friends and family. Whether she was your mother, grandmother, aunt, niece or friend, you could call on her any time of the day for a good laugh and encouragement that would leave you feeling confident and assured that you could make it through life's journey! Marie loved spending time with her loved ones where you could find her laughing, singing, eating and sharing her wisdom.
In her latter years, Marie would start off her day with her video tapes of the late Bishop G.E. Patterson and Pastor Judson Fields CD sermons since she was unable to attend church. She would sit in her wheelchair and clap to, "I Like The Ole' Time Singing and Shoutin." Her day always began and ended with Praise and Worship. As David, said, "I will bless the Lord at all times and his praises shall continually be in my mouth."-Psalms 34:1.
Marie was preceded in death by, husband Louie N. Brown, parents, Rev. J.B. and Lorena Brown, sister, Emma Lee Marshall, daughter, Carolyn Marie Brown Harrison. The lingering legacy continues through her cherished family; four sons and two daughters: Donnie and Julluette, Oklahoma City, OK., Linda Berry, Tulsa, OK., Patsy and Donnie, Tulsa, OK., Louie "Piggy" Okmulgee, OK., Michael and Wilma, Tulsa, OK., Edwin, Clydia, Tulsa, OK., Grandchildren: Alisha, Yolanda, Deonie, Jacquilla, Andre, Donnie, Je'Offrey, Daryl, Daren, Renisha, Tiffany, Marcoe, Monte, Jamelia, Jaime, Keon, Michelle, Tyra, LaKeshia, Donte, and Jason, seven great-grandchildren: Collin, Adalis, Dalls D'von, William, Shylo Jas-Marie, Roderich and Eugenae.
