IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy
Lewis
June 30, 1933 – January 21, 2024
Dorothy Ree Crawford was born in Dekalb, Mississippi on June 30,1933, the daughter of Lowry and Amanda Clark Crawford. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and prayed she would one day leave the cotton fields of Mississippi. God answered her prayers when her Sunday school teacher recommended her for a speech contest which led to a scholarship to attend The American Baptist Theological Seminary in Nashville,TN. She graduated from seminary with a Bachelor's degree. From Nashville, Ms. Dorothy moved in faith to Oklahoma City where she met Dr. T.O. Chappelle Sr., a minister from Tulsa looking for a church secretary. Tulsa became her home. She married William Lewis Jr and had two children, LaVern Michelle and Yvonne Marlene.
In the 1960's, Ms. Dorothy later became a nursing home administrator and spent more than 40 years helping families navigate the care of their loved ones. She did an excellent job and it was her compassion and service to others that solidified her life's purpose. Whether it was making Sunday dinners for her choir, volunteering at the Turley Correctional Center to mentor women inmates, volunteering at Life Senior Services, checking in on friends or slipping money to those she loved, Ms. Dorothy did it all. She loved Morning Star Baptist Church and she loved helping people. She served on the Credit Union Board and dedicated her time anywhere the church needed her.
Ms. Dorothy is preceded in death by her oldest daughter Lavern Lewis Clark.
