On August 11, 1923, in Haskell, Oklahoma a beautiful baby girl was born to Ben Durant and Affie Asbury Durant. They named her Dorothy Mae. Dorothy was second oldest of eight children. She lived a wonderful Christian life and
enjoyed the fruit of her labor of 98 years old.
Dorothy graduated from Booker T Washington in Haskell, Oklahoma in the Class of 1940. She married the
love of her life, E. C. McAfee on December 5, 1943. They
were married for 52 years. E. C. and Dorothy worked
together as a team farming a cotton field and various crops.
Dorothy worked along side E. C. in all life aspects including
church, business and socially. They were partners for life and enjoyed building, constructing and planning gardening year-round. Both were knowledgeable for their gardening skills and aptitude for growing things.
They were both proud of a well kept manicured lawn and garden.
Dorothy and E. C. were members of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where E. C. was a deacon and Dorothy was the Church Secretary. They later united with Harper's Chapel Baptist Church and Dorothy served at East Side Baptist Church in Haskell, OK until her health failed. She was a faithful member, loved the Lord and loved good singing.
Dorothy's parents, Ben and Affie preceded her in death, as _well as sisters, Lizzie Peters (Oscar), Leora Wilson (Ulyses). Vera Bledsoe(Earnest), and her brothers, James Durant (Versie) , Walter Durant, Therman Durant and Maceola Durant. Deceased in-laws include mother-in-law, Lena Fields, brother-in-law, Arthur Robinson and sister-in-law, O.T. Robinson, nieces, Ozella Moore Cullom (Harvey Moore, Sr.) Melva Jean Ingram, Eugene Robinson (Josephine), nephew. She also has some first born nieces and nephews that preceded her in death, Floreen Jamerson, James Durant, Jr. Harvey Moore, Jr. and Sharon Moore. Many more nieces and nephews preceded her in death. Yet, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and church family to mourn her passing. She will be missed for her wonderful cooking skills and sweet disposition.
You may visit Dorothy on Sunday from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at the funeral home in Tulsa.
Services for Dorothy will be Monday, September 20th, 2021 at 11AM in the Tulsa Chapel.
