Dorsie Mae Marzett was the ninth child born to June and Clara Wesson Marzett on May 8, 1924 in Depew, Oklahoma. Dorsie Mae began her life in Boley, Oklahoma in 1942 with her marriage to Jeff Dubose. From this union they were blessed with a daughter Mary Alice Dubose. Jeff preceded her in death.
In 1951, she married her loving husband John M. Higgs, who preceded her in death after 49 years. She was raised in Boley, Oklahoma along with her other 12 siblings. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and shared one of her most gifted talents as a pianist for years at her husband's church in Spencer, Oklahoma where they made their home.
Mae, better known as "Big Sis," is best remembered for her love of people and words of wisdom she often shared with her family and friends. She appreciated the simple things in life. As the expression goes," she never met a stranger." Mae would say, "your feet are always welcome at my table" and she would just make you eat something.
She relocated to Boley in 1999, and united with Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, fishing, and cooking and shared that love with many as a cook for C.A.P. Head Start until her retirement.
Preceding her in death are her parents, June and Clara Marzett, seven sisters: Florence Brooks, Rebecca Sykes, Eulah Ramsey, Euphene Tomlin, Inez Bowen, Alice Bell, Clara Bell Sykes, five brothers: Robert "Bob," Dovell, Millard, Bennie, and June "Buck" Marzett.
