Obituary

"Doug E. Fresh"

On October 31, 1966 in Oklahoma City, OK, God blessed the union of Doug Sr. and Justinia (Statum) Owens with a third child, Doug Jr.  Doug's parents instilled the importance of a strong family bond, at an early age.  He cherished his older sister and brother, Linda and Travis.  He accepted Christ at a young age.  As a member of Church of the Living God CWFF (Denver, Co.), Doug was an active member of the YPPU where he proudly served with his brother as a Youth Usher.  Doug faithfully attended bible study; where his father was the teacher, and loved praising the Lord. Doug was a very loving warm-hearted caring man. He touched many hearts.

As a young child, Doug traveled with his father's career from Oklahoma City to Houston, Denver, back to OKC and to Tulsa.  Doug attended elementary school in Houston, TX.  After moving to Denver, he participated in little league football in his younger years.  After moving back to Tulsa, Doug attended Broken Arrow High School where he was a member of the Tigers basketball team.  To this day, he proudly shares the day he scored 14 point in one quarter.  He is a graduate of John Marshall High School Class of 1985.

In 1998, Doug married Glenda McHenry.  From that union were three children; J', D' and Justice.  Before starting his career at NORDAM in 2000, Doug held various jobs; at Bordens Dairy Plant (Tulsa), Gulf Coast Recycling and Coke Cola Enterprise (Beaumont, TX).

In the late 80's, Doug joined the Individuals Car Club.  He loved buying cars and converting them into something that represented his personal tastes.  Once transformed, he gave them names like "Milk & Honey" and "Ice Cold"; names he actually had elaborately painted on every ride.  He once cut-off the top of his pick-up as part of a new project.  To say that his father was not pleased about the truck is a grave understatement.  Doug was just as obsessed about the truck as he was about the entertainer, Bobby Brown.  He was often heard arguing with friends about "who was better"; New Edition or Bobby Brown?  And he made his passion clear when he got "it's my prerogative" painted on the truck.  Doug also loved converting his cars to lowriders.  He was very proud to be feature in a magazine featuring some of the most amazing lowriders around.

When the time came for Doug to gain his wings; he was greeted in Heaven by those who preceded him in death; his parents, Doug Sr. and Justinia Owens, his sister Linda Banks and his brother, Travis Owens.  Also preceding him in death was his Aunt Trevor Lee and a special cousin Charles "Chucky" Owens.

He is survived by his children; Justice Lee Banks (Tulsa, OK) , J' Shawaun Owens (Port Arthur, TX) and D' Shawn Owens (Beaumont, TX) and grandchildren; Jai'Cee Wilson and Chance Banks.

Additional surviving family includes aunts Irene Carson (Rev. L,C.), Bonnie Cooper, Lucky Sanders, Tama Gain, Christie Statum, Mildred (W.G.) Thornton Norma Lee (Melvin) Roberts, an uncle, Joseph Statum and the well-loved Billy Ray Walker.  He also leaves his sister-in-law, Tyra Woodard-Owens. Nieces and nephews: Justina Banks, Britany Owens, Ashley Tyson, Milan Owens, Travis D. Owens and Hunter Woodard. Great-nieces and nephews: MaKayla Saunders, Nicari Owens, Darius Campbell, Khylan Montgomery, Chaz Rene Tyson, Serenity Goe, Rylan Silmon and Garet Hunt II.  Doug was particularly close to his cousin LaDonna Laskey.  Additionally, Doug leaves a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
