Mr. Duane Grant, made his Earthly Transition on Sunday Morning December 17, 2017 in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
On October 9, 1954, a big fine baby boy was born to Marquis L. Grant, Jr. and Verta Lee (McDaniel) Grant in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They named him Duane Eugene.
Duane attended Muskogee Public Schools, including Historic Langston Elementary, Sadler Jr. High, Manual Training High School, and later Muskogee High School.
Duane was a very outgoing young man and was handsome and a charmer. He was a dedicated friend and a protector of his friends and family. All who knew him would tell a story of how he was willing to defend them in times of trouble.
His early years revealed to him to be an industrious young person who worked hard and was named night Assistant Manager of a Git-N-Go Store at the age of 17. Prior to that, he was a golf caddy at Muskogee Country Club. They liked him so much that he was made an assitant chief in the off-season. Duane became disabled as a very young man, but remained a loving person, son brother, and friend. Duane was a saved at a young age and attended Macedonia Baptist Church of Muskogee, OK during the early years of his life under the pastorage of Rev. Thomas McFrazier.
Duane was called home on Sunday December 17, 2017. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary McDaniel, parents Marquis and Verta Lee Grant, and brothers Marquis III, and Paul. He leaves to cherish his memory: his son Tyreece Buchanan, his daughter Shontae (Tyrone) Jones, his sisters LaVersia Murray, Idella Teague, Freida Derrick, brothers: Terrell, Alonzo, and Alphonso, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, aunts Mae Helen Collins and LeeAnna Collins, along with a host of relatives and longtime family friends.
Memorial Services for Mr. Grant will be Tuesday January 2, 2017 at 11AM at The Martin Luther King Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
