Obituary

Earnie Howard Roy, Sr., was born on August 20, 1918 in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma to Bert Roy Sr., and Martha Dansby Roy. He was the third of ten children born from this union. Earnie grew up in the Fort Gibson area and attended school there until he began to work.


in 1941, he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed in Louisiana until 1943 and served as a Military Policeman before his honorable discharge.


Earnie married Hester Bunton in 1940, and to this union, he gained step-children, who he loved, General Tims and Claretha Tims. Together, there was Roosevelt Roy, Dory Roy, Earnie Roy Jr., and Lola Roy.


in 1966, he married Juanita Stephens. He gained two step-children, Ramon Stephens and Cecilia Stephens, who he called "kid."


Mr. Roy worked for over 33 years at the Veterans Administration Medical Center before his retirement, as a Nurses Assistant. He was a kind, giving and loving man who will be missed by his family and closest friends.


Earnie Howard Roy, Sr., after 93 wonderful years of life, transitioned to everlasting life on Friday, March 23, 2012 from Muskogee. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sons,General Tims, Roosevelt Roy, Dory Roy, Earnie Roy Jr., and Ramon Stephens; both wives, Hester and Juanita, six brothers, Willie Roy, Joe Roy, Bert Roy, Jr., Windell Roy, Richard Roy, and Lewis Roy and two sisters, Elizabeth Wilson and Lorrain Ross.


He leaves to lament his death; a sister, Rachel Fields, East Palo Alto, California; his daughters, Lola Roy [John] Johnson, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Claretha Anderson, Wichita, Kansas and Cecilia Stephens, Norman, Oklahoma; 34 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; and a caravan of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.


Funeral Mass for Mr. Roy will be on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with Father Michael Knipe, Celebrant. Burial will follow at 12 Noon in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson. You may visit Mr. Roy, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., on Thursday from 12 Noon until 7 PM, with the Rosary beginning at 7 PM in the Chapel of Remembrance at the funeral home.
