Obituary

On July 1, 1930, Edward Stell Wilson was born to the union of Eugene Christopher Wilson and Clatie Stell Wilson in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Edward accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of sixteen and was baptized at Union Baptist Church, in Tulsa.

Edward attended Dunbar Elementary School, Carver Middle School, and was a graduate of the Grand Class of 1948 at Booker T. Washington High School. Upon graduation Edward matriculated to West Virginia State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in music in 1952. Shortly after graduation he was drafted to the Korean Conflict where he earned a Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, a United Nations Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

Upon completion of his military service Edward returned to Tulsa. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Billie McCuin, and on February 18, 1956 he made her his life. To their union, two daughters were born Pamela LaShawn (1959) and Pagette Jean (1967). Their union would last 67 ½ years, until she parted this life for her heavenly home in October of 2023.

The name Edward means "rich guardian", "wealthy guard", "protector". There is no name more fitting for my father. He took the job of "head of household" seriously. There was nothing more important to him than making sure that his family was taken care of. He worked for the US Postal Service for 36 years and took pride in his job as a mail handler. He enjoyed visiting with the many customers along his mail route through the years and shared so many fond stories about things he encountered while at work. At Christmas time it was apparent that he was appreciated by his customers because our home would be full of the many gifts he received.

Although he never went on to make a career in music, my father was a consummate musician and had an impeccable ear. For years he played "gigs" with various bands at night, while carrying mail during the day. I can vaguely remember hearing him practice his saxophone in the garage when I was very young. Growing up, I can remember practicing the piano, or clarinet and he would come running into the living room to tell me I'd played the wrong note, or didn't have the rhythm, just right. He passed on his love for music to my sister and I, as well as my children. Music, in many forms, was the backdrop for my entire childhood.

Edward had a love, not only for his family and music, but he was also a lover of people. He never met a stranger and made a positive impact on so many over the years. No matter where he was, he would make a friend, tell a story, and offer a piece of friendly advice. There has never been, nor will there ever be, anyone who can tell a joke the way Ed Wilson could. Regardless of the setting, he could pull a joke out of nowhere and break the ice. We will truly miss the jokes, stories, and most of all the daily phone calls-just to make sure we're OK.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Clatie and his wife Billie. Left to cherish his memory: his daughter Pam Wilson, his daughter Pagette Wilson (Hill), his two grandchildren Jazmine M. Hill and Bert Brown III (Trey), and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
