The Obituary of a
Humble Life Lived With Humility Roosevelt Brice Honorary Doctorate of Theology,
Elder, Evangelist, Pastor
Roosevelt Brice was born on November 18, 1931, in Wabbeska, Arkansas. He was the first of ten children born to Willie and Louise Jones-Brice. Growing up in a strictly segregated society, he credited his parents and the love for God for instilling healthy values of faith in Christ. At an early age, he and his cousin, Elisha Bingham, would go to the Holiness Church and sometimes were so late getting home that they slept in a box car until daybreak and secretly went into the house, thinking that his mother did not know they had stayed out late at the Holiness Church, but she never let them know until they were grown that she was aware of the change God was making in his life, seeding him to the Church of God in Christ faith with Elder Benton in Stuggart, Arkansas. At 18 years old, he married Mary Alice Stiggers-Brice, and to this holy union, six children were born. After relocating to San Diego, California, he was employed by the act of working without filling out an application. The foreman announced not hiring; while others stood in line, Elder Brice commenced to work, and at the end of the shift the payer said, "We are paying him because he put in a day's work." After witnessing his desire to work, and working without expecting any pay but to demonstrate his desire to work, this became a retiring job after about 30 years of employment. There was no job that challenged him that he couldn't do. His lifelong appreciation was praising God for everything he attempted to do. He served in many churches in San Diego, but the late Bishop J. A. Blake, Sr., considered him a son, and after he served as a youth pastor at historical Jackson Memorial COGIC, he was assigned as Elder Jessie's assistant pastor. He served God as a national evangelist with the late Bishop Samuel Moore and the late Bishop Nathaniel Jones, his cousin, and many others. He was an affectionate servant of the Emerita Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, and he was always loved by the late Mother Lula Champion-Blake. Elder Brice had many diversified work experiences as well as experiences serving the Lord.
In 1986, Sister Mary Alice Stiggers-Blake preceded Elder Brice in transition from her earthly vessel to her heavenly body in the bosom of God. Elder Brice continued to follow the Lord in revival assignments. Elder Brice worked on building Faith Mission under Bishop Dixon, Barstow COGIC under Bishop Nathaniel Jones, and did repairs on Jackson Memorial COGIC under Bishop J. A. Blake Jr. In 1993, he traveled to Muskogee, Oklahoma, and conducted a revival at Goodwill COGIC, under the pastorate of the late great Elder Raymond Toles, who in 1994, became Elder Brice's father-in-love when he married Missionary Mary Alice Toles-Brice. He conducted a revival in Stuttgart, Arkansas, and remodeled a telephone company into a place of worship in three days. They established and pastored Galilee Outreach/Inreach Ministry COGIC from 1999. God's General Elder Brice commanded an army to serve the Lord and inspired many young ministers to fast and pray and study the Bible every day to grow in grace. Sanctification is a must. Elder Brice would teach the young and old to survive this world. Even in his weak physical being, he would tell you that you must continue to work for the Lord. Don't give up pleasing the Lord and man will always respect you. While in the hospital in critical care for three weeks and general medicine for one week, he was witnessed by never complaining and always smiling no matter the treatments he was given. The doctors and nurses and other medical personnel often commented that he was a gallant and loving man full of extraordinary strength, and his power was exemplified.
Pastor Roosevelt Brice was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Louise Brice; son, Wayon Brice; daughter, Rosemary Rhone; grandson,
James Compare; brother, Jessie Brice; brothers-in-love, Brother Josh Crayton and Brother Samuel London; sisters, Lorene Amos, Mattie Crayton, Mary Ingram; and his grandparents.
On Saturday, January 7, 2023, as a patient in St. Francis Hospital Tulsa, 4-East ICU with his wife, Missionary Mary Toles Brice, by his side, Pastor Roosevelt Brice went to sleep and is in the presence of the Lord. Pastor Brice finished his purpose God designed, and now he has received his eternal reward; the highest of all.
