Elder Oscar G. Higgs, Jr., a retired Pastor, went to Heaven on Thursday morning, February 8, 2018 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Elder Higgs was born to Oscar G. Higgs Sr. and Hattie Anna Lee Dunn Higgs on June 29, 1931 in Idabel, Oklahoma.
Later on while he was still a child, they moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He attended Catholic School in Okmulgee until he transferred to Dunbar School.
Early in life, Oscar attended Mount Zion Baptist Church until he later heard and learned about the Church of The Living God. Upon learning, he united with the Church of The Living God Temple 94. Then the Lord saw fit to call Oscar to preach the gospel. He preached his first sermon on a Wednesday night in May of 1956 entitled, "I Find No Fault". His first appointment was to pastor Clearview, Oklahoma Temple 99 in 1960. He also served as District Sunday School Superintendent. He served as the proud pastor of Temple 258 until October, 2016 and remained a member of the Church of The Living God until his demise.
While pastoring in Clearview, Oscar met the LOVE of his life, Eunice Faye Russell. They were married on August 20, 1961 and their union was blessed with five children and one special son, Jaymz Rucker who preceded him in death.
Elder Higgs and Missionary Eunice Higgs are fondly called Dad and Mom, Papa and Granny by many other "adopted" children.
Elder Higgs was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Hattie Higgs, one special son, Jaymz Rucker, and eight siblings; John Higgs (Mae), Curtis Higgs (Ruby), Connis Higgs (Liza), Arzel Higgs (Wynata), Jordan Higgs (Pearline), Cozel Higgs Bowie (Earl), Arzee Higgs Butler (Roy) and Beatrice Higgs Rogers (Oliver).
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted loving wife, Missionary Eunice Higgs, of the home in Okmulgee; his children, Shermaine King, Okmulgee, Marquette Higgs, Okmulgee, Rita Higgs, Tulsa, Zeedwin Glenn (John),Tulsa and Oscar Higgs, III (Della), Okmulgee; along with nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a brother Clindell Higgs with Letricia, Oklahoma City, two sisters Toledo McGee with Paul and Ollie Mae Higgs both of Okmulgee, and a caravan of other relatives, church family and friends.
The Final Hour with Elder Higgs will commence on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the most holy sanctuary of the Church of the Living God Temple # 258 in Okmulgee. Elder Jerry Bowie will Preside. The Christian Committal will follow the service in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Okmulgee.
