Obituary

Elizabeth "Lizanne" Pressley Monday entered the world on May 12, 1938 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Harriet "Hattie" Mae Ross and Raymond Jefferson Pressley. One of ten children, Lizanne was a gifted, intelligent child. The family lived in the Greenwood community during a golden era, where she often recalled the ladies strutting down the street in high fashion on the weekends as she ran various errands for her mother, such as grocery shopping, always making sure to bring home the right amount of change. Elizabeth accepted Christ at an early age, living a faith filled life.

Lizanne was a proud member of Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1956, excelling in her studies as an honor roll student and cheerleader. She was an active member of her community, organizing talent shows for children and eventually creating Lizanne Inc., a modeling agency and cultural arts studio that offered everything from Black history and workout classes to self-development and image-building workshops. She was the director for the Miss Black Tulsa pageant for many years, mentoring and empowering hundreds of young women under the tutelage of Clara Luper at the state-wide level.

A devoted mother to her three sons Michael, Jim and Kenny, she was a loyal supporter throughout their wrestling careers and life.  Always about her business, she worked different venues on Greenwood. She was a secretary at the YMCA and Dunbar Elementary School, and the first Black cashier at Safeway. Lizanne, also worked at the Tulsa Urban League, Rockwell International, and was a licensed realtor in Texas and North Carolina.

She retired with American Airlines,  transferring to Raleigh, NC and lived there until her death on Dec 30., 2023, where Elizabeth quietly closed her eyes and departed.
