It was Tuesday November 2, 1943, when Tiller and Geneva Watson decided to start their family. God blessed them with their first child and daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth Watson. As time went on, she felt the need to be extra, sometimes going by Elizabeth Carolyn, even adding an extra T, to her last name. However, she was always known as Skip!
Skip received her formal education through Tulsa Public School. She attended Dunbar Elementary, Carver Jr High, and graduated from the mighty Booker T Washington High School in 1961. After high school Skip followed the glitz and shine to Los Angeles, CA where she graduated from Cal State Los Angeles with a BA degree in Education. Shortly after graduation she taught English at Centennial High School in Compton, CA. However, she also worked a second job, as an elevator operator at Saks Fifth Avenue, in Beverly Hills. She often spoke of the celebrities that she bumped into, like Lucille Ball, Des Arnaz, and Joan Crawford. Skip enjoyed the glamour and she enjoyed Los Angeles. But after a while, she begin miss her family and decided to return to Oklahoma.
Upon returning to Tulsa, Skip worked for St Francis Hospital where she was a phone operator for several years, but her career with Ford Motor Company is where most of her career accomplishments took place. Also, during this time, she met a handsome young man, named Ralph Cazenave and the love sparks began. Their world-wind romance produced a BEAUTIFUL, AMAZING, WONDERFUL daughter, Maisha LaVahr (You can guess who wrote this right?! Life was good! Skip was a faithful employee of Ford Motor Company for 38 years. She remained at the factory until they closed the doors. Her career at Ford allowed her to live a lifestyle of sparkle and shine. She loved her Bling Bling! And you could always find her wearing something full of sparkle. Skip was blessed with many friends and experiences while at Ford, and she enjoyed every minute of it! And when she wasn't working, she traveled the country and participated in socialite functions, such as fashion shows, dinner parties and all things Class of '61!
Family and faith were important to her. Her grandchildren, Cydney and Aspen meant the world to her. Even in her last days she was concerned about them. In one of her last conversations with her daughter, she told her, "Get my purse, there is money inside…Go feed Aspen!" Skip was a long-time member of Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev T.C. Morris, Rev C. Smith, Rev LL Tisdale. She then joined with St Paul Baptist Church, now Turn Church, under the leadership of Rev Tiller Watson III. She loved serving at her church. However, she most enjoyed working in the clothing closet and blessing others with the latest fashions. Her passion was fashion. And she loved looking good for the Lord. Combined with volunteering at church, she loved helping her daughter with her growing candle business. Skip definitely lived a life full of sparkle and shine.
