The Celebration will be on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the Saint Mark Baptist Church, 1020 South 2nd Street. Reverend Anthony L. Scott, Sr., the Gracious Host Pastor will be the Eulogist and Dr. Stephen L. Wiley, Pastor of Praise Center Family Church, the Officiant.
The Christian Committal will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the National Cemetery at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma with Military Honors.
You may visit Mr. Reed, on Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M., followed by the Wake from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Morning Star Baptist Church, 109 East Kalamazoo.
Mr. Elmer Eugene "Gene" Reed, a retired educator of the Muskogee Public School district answered his call Home on Friday, July 28, 2006. He was born to Alphonso and Lillie Reed February 3, 1938 in Muskogee, OK. With a strong religious background, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very young age. Mr. Reed was baptized at the Morning Star Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev. C.A. Perry. He remained a faithful member until his health failed.
Mr. Reed was educated in the Muskogee Public School system attending Douglas Elementary School, and culminating with his graduation with the proud class of 1956 at the Historic Manual Training High School, where he was active the high school band. After graduating, Gene proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country from 1959 to 1963 when he was honorably discharged. He then matriculated to Northeastern State University, and received a bachelor's degree, which led him to teach physical education at Cherokee, and Sadler Elementary School in Muskogee. He was a gentle giant, with a kind and loving heart.
He enjoyed swinging a hammer, working on small engines in his garage surrounded by his friends who watched and learned from him. He loved sharing life with his family, and playing his saxophone for various churches. He will be deeply missed, and will forever remain in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Grace and brothers Alfred, Alphonso, JR., and Milton. Remaining to cherish precious memories, his devoted wife of 42 years, Loretta, also known to many as "Scottie," a niece who was the daughter he never had, Natasha M. Scott, Norman, OK; brothers Donald and Cora Reed, Plano, TX, Kenneth and Ursula Reed, Little Rock, AR; sisters Helen Jones, Plano, TX, Carolyn and Merron, Montgomery, TX, Linda and Carrol A., JR., Beaumont, TX; two aunts, Mildred Harper, Wichita, KS and Fannie Wesley, Kansas City, MO; Godson, Reginald and Anna Teague, Tucson, AZ; brother-in-laws, Samuel Scott, Vacaville, CA, and Bobby Scott, San Antonio, TX, sister-in-laws, Barbara Reed, Oklahoma City, OK, Patricia Reed, Muskogee, OK, Laythel and Lawrence Andrews, Pomona, CA, Carolyn Brinkley, Detroit, MI, Hazel and Ivey Neal, Fayetteville, NC, Sharon Scott, Oklahoma City, OK, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and countless friends.
