Obituary

It all began in Muskogee, Oklahoma, on April 10, 1943, when a baby girl was born to Thomas Lee and Catherine [Carrethers] Grayson. She was given the name Elverna Ray.

Elverna was educated through Muskogee Public Schools and later attended Connors State College.

Being the beautiful young woman she was, she caught the eye of her intended love of many years, Devoy Hill, Jr., and after falling in love, they were married in 1969.

Elverna was a faithful employee of Coburn Optical for thirteen years before retiring to become a full-time foster parent.

On Thursday evening, March 4, 2010, Elverna Ray Hill, in her 66th season, "took flight, with Angels to thine place of rest." She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Juanita Catherine and Rosie Lee.

She leaves to lament her passing while yet carrying on her legacy; her faithful husband of 40 years, Reverend Devoy Hill, Jr.; five daughters, Pamela Thomas [Arthur], Augusta, Georgia, Catherine McIntosh [Michael], Belton, Missouri, YoLynda Scott [Donald], Belton, Missouri, LaDasha Hill and Marquitta Hill; three sons, Michael Hill, Kansas City, Johnny Carter, Leawood, Kansas, and Demetrius Hill, Belton, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Gary Hill [Candie], Deshanta Johnson [Termaine], Arthur Thomas, Jr., YoKeisha Hill, LaTrina McIntosh, Michael McIntosh, Dominic, Devynne and Daylen Scott, Krishawnda and Kenneth Collins, and Kirk Shelton; her sister, Minnie Lou Demps [James],Austin Texas: a special niece, Sheila Chandler; along with a caravan of other relatives and friends.

The Hour of Tribute will commence on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. in the Greater Rayfield Baptist Church. The Pastor, Reverend Leroy Walker, Sr., will Preside.

The Christian Committal will follow in Booker T. Washington Cemetery in Muskogee.

You may visit Mrs. Hill, as she slumbers in sweet repose at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
