Our Mother, Erma Jean Foley, was introduced to the world on March 11, 1932 in Coffeyville, Kansas. At an early age, she and her parents, Alice Fisher-Foley and Ellis Foley, Sr., later moved to Boynton in the Cane Creek Community. Our Mother attended grade school at the Cane Creek School and completed her education at Wheatley High School in Boynton, Oklahoma in May of 1950.
She met and married Hubert E. Adkins, Sr., [her high school sweetheart] on October 12, 1950. To this union, eight children were born.
Our Mother loved playing the piano. To nurture her love for God and the piano, she was the pianist for several churches; First Baptist Church of Taft for 22 years, Bethel A.M..E. Church of Haskell, Black Jack Baptist Church of Taft, Community Baptist Church of Boynton, Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Boynton, Cane Creek Baptist Church of Boynton, New Zion Baptist Church of Muskogee and Church of Wildwood Baptist in Muskogee.
An Angel descended from the Heavens above to call our Mother home on Tuesday, March 12, 2018 at 12:10 A.M., just hours after the family celebrated her 86th birthday. Her work had been done and her time to receive the most cherished gift for man, to be home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert E. Adkins, Sr.; her parents, a brother, Richard Foley and two sons, Reginald and Hubert, Jr.
Our Mother leaves in God's care to cherish her unforgettable and fond memories; her children, Jacquelyn Stockard [Robert], Janice Pouncil [Carl], Edwin Akdins [Sandra], Jesse Adkins [Shelia], Denis Walker and Troy Adkins; her sister, Jessie Mae Williams, Tulsa, Oklahoma; her brother, Ellis Foley, Jr. [Karen], Wolf City, Texas; her daughters-in-law, Cheryl Adkins [Reginald] and Peggy Adkins [Hubert Jr]; a special son, Melvin Pouncil, Boynton, Oklahoma; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren along with a caravan of other relatives and friends.
Her Tribute will commence on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. in the Boynton Community Center. Reverend Leroy Walker, Sr., Pastor of Rayfield Baptist Church of Muskogee, will officiate. The Christian Committal will follow in the Cane Creek Cemetery in Boynton.
