Reflections of the Life of Erma Jean Lewis
On August 19, 1936 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, a baby girl was born to Elizabeth Elston. She gave her the name, Erma Jean. Erma Jean attended school in Pawnee. At the early age of 15, Erma Jean's mother passed away. She never got over the sudden passing of her beloved mother. Erma Jean also had a brother and three sisters who preceded her in death.
After giving her life to Christ, Erma Jean met William Lee Lewis. They were married in September of 1976. They traveled together, doing the work of evangelists, sharing the Good News of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jean, as she later preferred to be called, loved the Lord. Jean was invited to speak at women's group meetings at the church. Jean loved people, and at every opportunity, she would share the Gospel with them. During her years of employement, Jean worked as a Nurse's Aide and Dietary.
In their later years together, Jean and William joined Love Tabernacle here in Tulsa, OK. She was lovingly known as Mother Lewis. They attended faithfully until her health began to fail. During the afternoon of Friday, September 11, 2020, at Porta Caeli Hospice House, Jean slipped away quietly in her sleep, going home to be with her Savior. Her husband, William and daughter Emily, were by her side. Jean leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband William of the home, and his children whom she loved as her own; daughter, Emily R. Marshall, (Tulsa, OK), two sons, Nathaniel F. Marshall, III (Wichita, KS) and Eugene A. (Kathy) Marshall (Oklahoma City, OK), a brother Walter Tate, Jr.(Muskogee, OK), four grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also cherishing Jean's memory are two special friends, Sonya Fanning and Betty Bottoms, both considered as "Family."
Leaving behind her loving Husband, Mr. William Lewis, A Home Going Celebration is planned for Friday September 18, 2020 at 11AM at Love Tabernacle Church of God In Christ at 3146 N. Xanthus Place in Tulsa.
Friends may visit Mrs. Lewis as she Lies in State on Thursday from 12PM until 6PM in The Tulsa Chapel.
