On June 10, 1949, a beautiful baby girl was born to Charles and Blanch (Jackson) Lee. and they named her Essie LaJean affectionately known as "Jean". Jean was the 3rd of eight children.
Jean was nurtured, loved, and grew up along with her siblings in Taft, Ok and received her formal schooling at Moton Public Schools. She was a member of the graduating class of 1969. She united with Cole Chapel CME Church as a child under Rev. Theodore Goff but later became an active member of Anchor Fellowship Bible Church, Rev. Curtis Leland, Pastor. Jean retired after thirty-eight years years from the State of Oklahoma. She served her community as a member of the City Council and former Mayor in Taft, OK, Volunteers of America, Eastern Oklahoma Development District, Committed to Build and Beautify Taft, Inc., MLK Dream Team, Habitat for Humanity, Neighbors Building Neighborhoods, Yarn Yarn Sisterhood of Muskogee and various other committees.
Jean was United in Holy Matrimony to Larry E Pouncil, Sr. to which two children were born, Larry E Pouncil, Jr and Venetta Beatrice (Pouncil) Douglas. She later married Wiley McIntosh.
After 71 beautiful years on earth, this phenomenal woman was called home to be with her Savior.. She was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings: Raymond Rawlings, Charles Lee Jr., Charles Etta (Lee) Graves, Harlan G. Lee, DeWayne Mayo, and nieces and nephews .
Essie L McIntosh leaves to cherish her memory, two children: Larry Eugene (Duke) Pouncil (Janet) and Venetta Douglas; five brothers: Daryl, Eric (Kim), John, Terry, Larry (Shirley); four sisters: Paulette, Yolanda, Beatrice, Etoyce; grandchildren: Cheyenne, Cherokee, Jade, Andre, Olivia, Noah, Gabe, great-grandchildren: Brayleigh, Zayvion, Drayden, Rhyann, and Ezekiel; and a caravan of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
You may visit Mrs. McIntosh, as she slumbers in sweet repose on Thursday from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM and on Saturday, from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM.
Honoring her wishes, she will be cremated after the visitations.
