"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under Heaven."
Ecclesiastes 3:1
A Time To Be Born
Estella Carolyn Garrett was born May 12, 1918 to the late Spencer Blankenship and the late Gertha Mae Williams Blankenship in Hendrix, Oklahoma
A Time To Serve
Estella was baptized at an early age and united with the Church of Christ. Upon moving to Oklahoma City, she joined the 7th street Church of Christ and raised her children in that church. In later years, she was unable to attend due to failing health. Estella held fast to her faith in God. God was her source and strength. We who believe in God's free gift of salvation and grace know that we will see Estella again and rejoice in the Kingdom of the Almighty God.
A Time to Live
Estella was reared and educated in Savoy, Texas. She met and married Brooksey Lee King, to whom two children were born, Mae Brooks and Eddie Ruth. This husband preceded her in death. Mrs. Garrett later moved to Dallas, Texas, where she met and married Solomon Ward Garrett, Jr. This husband also preceded her in death.
In 1949, Estella moved to Oklahoma City, OK. with her children and became employed by Peyton & Marcus, a very upscale Ladies Better-To Wear Clothing Store. She was employed there for 28 years and became the first black sales person to go on the floor to sale the stores better dresses, handbags, shoes, etc. She always strived to better herself and those around her by continually seeking to learn new things and encourage others to do the same. She was a source of great inspiration.
A Time to Die
On Monday, September 7, 2009, the Master called his faithful servant home. We take comfort in the beautiful moments and memories of the years shared with Estella.
