Eugene Austin was born on September 25, 1933 at Alsuma, Oklahoma. He was affectionately referred to as "Gene", "Brother", and "Boone" by all who knew him.
Gene was baptized at an early age at the Alsuma Baptist Church. He earned his education at Alsuma Elementary School and later transferred to Tulsa Public Schools, where he attended Carver Junior High and ultimately graduated from the acclaimed Booker T. Washington High School with the Class of 1952.
After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country honorably as Air Police for four years.
Mr. Austin was a dedicated employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired after 31 years of loyal service.
He met a lovely young lady, Mosetta Bell and after falling in love, they were united in Holy matrimony. Their love was blessed with two sons, Kenneth Ray and Steven Eugene.
A dedicated servant of God, Eugene was an active member of Greater Union Baptist church for 30 years, serving as President of the Usher Board and later served on the Trustee Board. Later, after joining the Antioch Baptist church, he attended Sunday School and Sunday worship until his illness prevented his participation.
After 74 years of joyous life, love and laughter, Eugene Austin left Earth for Glory on Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2008 from Claremore, Oklahoma. A smile, a gesture, a call and an acceptance. It is well, with his soul.
The Final Tribute will be on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the Antioch Baptist Church, 110 W. 56th Street North in Tulsa. Rev. M. C. Potter, Pastor, will officiate. The Christian Committal will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
You may visit Mr. Austin, as he slumbers at the funeral home on Friday from 10 AM to 7 PM.
