Obituary

Mr. Eugene Rice, in his 75th year, surrendered his soul to Jesus on Thursday, just after Mid-night, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home.

Eugene Rice, Sr. was born October 11, 1933 in the Liberty Community in Okmulgee County. He was the third child of eight born to Thomas Jeff (T. J.) and Ever Lee (Walker) Rice. Three brothers preceded him in death, Lafette (infant), Leo, and Thomas, Jr.

He grew up in the Liberty Community and attended Beacon Light School from first through eighth grade. He graduated from Grayson High School in 1953 and went on to spend two years in the Navy.

During his high school years he met a fourteen year old young lady by the name of Lillie whom he felt was too young to court at that time. However, upon his return from the navy he began to court Lillie Novia Ratliff and made her his bride on July 26, 1959 at her home in Cane Creek. They moved within a mile of his parents, worked in construction, started farming and began a family. Over the next ten years seven children were born, four daughters and three sons.

In the early sixties he went to work at the Oklahoma Steel Casting Co. (American Foundry) in Tulsa where he retired after thirty-seven years. After retiring, he continued to farm.

In his last months he accepted the Lord as his Savior and looked forward to going home to be with Him. God called him home on September 3, 2009.

Left to cherish the memories of his life are Lillie Ratliff his loving wife of fifty years and seven children: Jeanett Churchill (Frankie) of Owings Mills, MD; Cletus Rice (Sheila) of Morris; Brenda Victor (Damon), Houston, TX; Marline Quigley (John) of Oklahoma City; Eugene Rice, Jr. (Sherry) of Morris; Ronald Rice (Michele) of Morris; Karen Jackson (Adonis) of Humble, TX; two brothers, Bees Rice (Ireather) of Okmulgee; Earnest Rice (Mae) of L.A., CA; and two sisters, Mae Dell Williams (Ned) of Omaha, NE; Evelyn Morgan (Leonard) of Tyler, TX; sixteen grandchildren, one uncle, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The final tributes will be shared on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the most sacred sanctuary of the St. Matthew Baptist Church of Okmulgee. Reverend McKinley Rice, Senior Pastor, will officiate. The Christian Committal will follow in the Cane Creek Cemetery at Boynton, Oklahoma.
