On February 19, 1917, God blessed Boyd and Marinda Freeman with the second of their four children, a son whom they named Everett Lawrence. His family resided East of Checotah, OK until 1926 when they moved to Muskogee and united with Macedonia Baptist Church. He attended Langston Elementary School and graduated from Manual Training High School in 1937.
In 1940, he married Maxine Harris of Redbird, Oklahoma. They shared their love with their only child, Leatha Mae.
Everett's parents showed great confidence in him as a young man when they relegated to him the authority to lead the family. Under his leadership he enriched the lives of his family members through his vision, wisdom and foresight. Everett was a man of integrity with varied interests and abilities. His interest in entrepreneurship and in the betterment of the community helped him lead his family to engage in various business ventures that offered community services such as produce cultivation and distribution, sand blasting, coal delivery, small engine repairs, heavy equipment operations, antique car collection, auto repair, US Postal Services (Reeves Station), real estate holdings and the ownership and operation of three neighborhood grocery stores. He was a businessman extraordinaire.
After the loss of his wife, he relocated in Tulsa in 2001 where he was surrounded by four generations of family. His primary care was provided by his grandson and wife, Marcus and Arnatta James and by his granddaughter, Kim James. He enjoyed a long healthy life without the aid of medication.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Gladys, James and Lois; Maxine, his wife of fifty-seven years and their daughter, Leatha Mae.
Loving memories of "Daddy Everett" will be cherished by his grandsons Roderick James of Dallas, Texas, and Marcus (Arnatta) James of Tulsa; his granddaughters, Lisa James of Memphis, TN and Kim James of Tulsa; his seven great grandchildren Renisha, Danyale, Maleatha, Marcus II, Shardae, Jordan and Kennedi; and his two great great grandchildren, Kaurtnie and Jaylin Powell. "Uncle Jeb" will also be missed by his nieces Velma (Gerald) Payne and Linda (Erdis) Roper of Tulsa; his nephew James (Sylvia) Foster of Muskogee; ten great nieces and nephews and sixteen great-great nieces and nephews. Memories of him will be cherished by these and other relatives and friends.
Services for Mr. Freeman will be Monday December 10, 2007 at 10AM at Revelations Revealed Truth Evangelistic Center in Tulsa.
