Mrs. Florence A. Jordan, after 86 seasons, surrendered to the will of the Lord on Friday, March 14, 2008 from Okmulgee Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Jordan was born in Okmulgee on November 7, 1921, the daughter of Steve Stevens and Nannie Cross. She grew up here, attending Okmulgee Public Schools, graduating from Historic Dunbar High School with the Class of 1943. She also attended Oklahoma State Tech with an associates degree in business management.
At an early age, she accepted Christ into her life and was a member of Shorter Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. She married Pete Russell and lived in Tulsa for many years before returning to Okmulgee after his death. She later remarried to Mitchell Jordan.
Mrs. Jordan was active in her church, serving as a Missionary and on the Stewardess Board, as well as President of the Benevolent Committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a brother.
She leaves behind; her sister-in-law, Gladys Jordan, California; her cousins, Florine Cross McCurdy, Okmulgee, Mary and Dr. Vertis Thompson, California, Ralph and Sheila Hooks, Tulsa, and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The service of memory for Mrs. Jordan will be on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the Shorter Chapel A.M.E. Church. Reverend W. T. Erby, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
