Obituary

Floyd Vann, III was born 2nd of 13 children to Floyd Vann, II and Havana McNac Vann. Also known as "Junior or Bear", he was born on July 12, 1949 in the Four Mile Branch Community of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.


Floyd grew up loving to fish, hunt and work on old cars. He was a very curious and mild mannered child according to his siblings. They were glad that Floyd was an excellent example of what an older brother should be. He will forever be missed and treasured.


Floyd attended grades 1 through 8 at Thompson elementary School on Four Mile Road. He enjoyed school and playing with his classmates. he also attended Fort Gibson High School and graduated with the Class of 1967. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he traveled to various states and overseas. While in the Air Force, he married his girlfriend, Paulette Hickman. They were blessed with four children.
After his military service, he attended Northeastern State University, where he received a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1976 in Drafting and Engineering with an emphasis in Industrial Arts. He was also became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Zeta Rho Chapter in December of 1974. Floy developed a love for music and instilled that joy to all of his children as well as appreciating nature, camping and canoeing.


Mr. Vann worked as a Draftsman for Coburn Optical, Crane Carrier Corporation, International Harvester, Cito Service, Dow Chemical, Halliburton Oil Company and Shepherd Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. Wichita Falls, Texas is where he settled and made his home.


While living there, Floyd became a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Angus Thompson, Pastor. He served the Lord at New Jerusalem as an usher, bus driver and sang in the choir. He also attended Wednesday Night services and helped out whenever needed. Floyd loved his children and siblings and always tried to come home for major holidays, special events or just to hang with friends and family. He loved attending church and always spoke of his church family.


After a lengthy illness, on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, the Lord saw fit to call his faithful servant home from Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has gone to be with his Lord.


He was preceded in death by his son, Floyd LaMar Vann, IV, his parents, Floyd Vann, II and Havana Vann, along with his brothers Lee Edgar, Johnny Lee and Eddie James Vann.


Those left to cherish his loving memory; his children, Shannon Vann, Garland, Texas, Keesha Rowland, Warner, Oklahoma, Johnsey [Aundrea] Vann, Sachse, Texas and Annette [Don] Cubit, Muskogee, Oklahoma; his sisters, Bonnie McCarroll, Agnes {John}McCann, Savannah Vann, Merilyn Vann, Deborah Vann and Rhonda [Ronnie] Jones; his brothers, Joe [Joyce] Vann, Clifford [Frankie] Vann and Reginald Vann; his grandchildren, Jeremiah Vann, Micah Ndiba, Josiah Vann, Logan Rowland, D'Niccko Cubit, James Vann, Jaxsen Vann, Joseph Vann, Anjanette [Dante] Grayson, Alianna Rowland, Keiara Rowland and Ellisen Vann; his great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, King, Royalty, Jordyn and Brielle; his Uncle, Tommy [Delores] McNac, Muskogee, Oklahoma; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Family and friends will gather to reflect on Floyd's life on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 12:00 Noon in the most holy sanctuary of Life Point Church.  Pastor Guy Parish is the gracious host and Reverend Angus D. Thompson, Senior Pastor of New Jerusalem Baptist Church of Wichita Falls, Texas will Officiate  Burial will follow at 14:00 Hours in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery.

You may visit Mr. Vann, as he slumbers in peaceful repose at the funeral home on  Wednesday from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
