On May 2, 1933, a bundle of joy was delivered to Elmore Byers and Mittie Davis in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She attended school in Muskogee and Graduated from Manual Training High School in 1951 in Muskogee, OK. In later years while residing in Tulsa, Freda made the choice to join the BTW Class of 1951 for reunion purposes. Freda continued her education and obtained a Certificate of Accounting from the Tulsa University. As a young girl Freda had big dreams and aspired for greatness. She met and married Lewis Cornelius Gray on November 4
th
, 1950, and to this union 5 children were born. Freda lived in Detroit, MI with her husband and five children as a homemaker. She later attended a Beauty College in Detroit to learn to do hair.
In 1964 she returned to Tulsa with her 5 children to begin her new journey. Freda worked for the City of Tulsa for over 10 years in their accounting department. She also worked for McMichaels Construction Company as their Payroll Accountant. After leaving McMichaels she went to work for Fibercast in Sand Springs, OK as their Payroll Accountant and later became their Human Resources Benefits Coordinator for 28 years prior to retiring from the Company. Freda was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church for over 30 years. During this time she was employed by the Morning Star Baptist Church Federal Credit Union and faithfully served as a member of various church auxiliaries: The Sanctuary Choir, the Pastor Anniversary Committee, Sunday School Bible Class #2, the Willing Workers Circle, the General Mission, United Friends, and 60 Fellowship.
Freda's mother, father, brother (Joe Louis Byers) and sister (Tommie Inez Love) all preceded her in death. Remaining to cherish her precious memory are Lewis Gray, Deborah Gray, Karen Gray, Milton Gray and Quentin Gray all of Tulsa, OK, her sister Dorothy Cooper of Oklahoma City, OK and sister-in law Della Birch of Detroit, Michigan.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Freda Mae Gray will be Saturday July 14, 2018 at 11AM at Morning Star Baptist Church.
