Genevee Birtrell Moore, also known as, Happy, Mother, and Granny, was born January 23, 1928 in Bristow, Oklahoma to James "JJ" June, and Willie B. Hammond. She attended Lincoln High School in Bristow, but graduated from Pawnee High School in Pawnee as an academic scholar. She continued her education at Langston University, where she majored in education and music. On April 22, 1950, she married L.D. Moore in Bristow. This loving union produced one son and three daughters.
Genevee professed Christ at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church and later was an active member of Greater Mt. Herman Baptist Church where she served as a Missionary officer, Choir President, and Youth Leader. She was employed as a seamstress at Miss Elaine Garment and Lingerie where she also served as President and an active member of the Union local 435. In addition, she was an active member of the Lincoln Alumni where she served as President and Vice President. In later years, she was an active member of Eastern Star. Some of her hobbies included fishing, gardening, and family gatherings.
Genevee loved her family and listened to every word, cry, or problem that they had. They were her joy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (LD Moore), and 21 brothers and sisters. She leaves to mourn her 4 children: Julius (Rita), LaDonna, Ramona (Joe), and Rita (Sam), 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and loved ones.
The Celebration of Life for Mother Genevee Britrell Moore will be Saturday July 14, 2012 at 11AM at The Christian Center located 909 S. Main in Bristow, Oklahoma. Friends may visit her on Friday, July 13 from 10AM until 7PM.
